Helmet requirements in Italy

Compulsory requirements

Written by NUCO Travel

Italy has some of the strictest ski helmet laws in Europe.

  • Who it applies to: Everyone on the slopes, regardless of age or experience.

  • Where it applies: All ski areas, including ski slopes, snow parks, back-country areas, and toboggan/sledge runs.

  • Required Standard: Helmets must be CE-certified (typically marked EN 1077).

  • Penalties: Skiers and snowboarders caught without a helmet face an on-the-spot fine between €100 and €200, and police can suspend or confiscate your ski pass for up to three days.
