GCX Desktop: Data Explorer

The Data Explorer feature on app.GreenCastConnect.com allows you to dive deeper into your sensor data. While the Dashboard provides a real-time overview, the Data Explorer is designed for historical analysis, comparisons, and trend insights. You can also save any Data Explorer view as a Dashboard widget, making it easy to revisit your most important metrics.

Key Features of the Data Explorer Tab

  • Organized Data Structure – Data is arranged by organization, area, and sensor, making it easy to compare information across different sites.

  • Historical Data Analysis – View data across custom time ranges for long-term insights.

  • Customizable Graphs – Select one or more areas, places, or sensors and compare multiple data types across your organization.

  • Timeline Charts – Visualize one or more measurements over time and compare trends on a single chart.

  • Multi-Metric Comparison – Compare two, three, or more measurements (e.g., soil moisture, soil temperature, salinity, ambient temperature, humidity, or atmospheric pressure) on the same chart.

  • Threshold Visualization – Display thresholds directly on the chart background to quickly identify when measurements are above or below desired ranges.

  • Mixed Line Charts – Compare two different measurements (e.g., soil temperature vs. soil moisture) on the same chart.

  • Filtering Options – Focus on specific sensors, groups, or areas to narrow down your analysis.

  • Data Export – Download your selections as a CSV file for offline use, reporting, or sharing.

  • Save as Dashboard Widget – Pin recurring views to your Dashboard for quick access.

Dashboard vs. Data Explorer

  • Dashboard → Real-time, high-level overview for quick checks and daily decisions.

  • Data Explorer → Detailed, customizable analysis for reviewing historical data, visualizing trends, and comparing metrics.

  • Connection → Any filtered or charted view in Data Explorer can be saved as a widget on your Dashboard.

How to Use the Data Explorer Tab

Follow these steps to get the most out of Data Explorer:

  1. From the left-hand menu, select Data Explorer.

  2. Choose Sensors

    • Use the filters panel to select an organization, area, and sensor(s). If you want to include every available Area or Sensor, click Select All to quickly build charts across your organization

  3. Compare Across Areas and Places:

    1. Data Explorer allows you to compare measurements from different areas, places, and sensor types within the same chart.

      • For example, you can compare:

        • Soil moisture from one green against soil moisture from another green.

        • Ambient temperature from an Aero™ GCX sensor against soil temperature from a Spiio™ soil sensor.

        • Multiple measurements from different locations side-by-side to identify trends and differences across your property.

  4. Select Metrics

    • Choose which measurement you want to analyze (e.g., soil moisture, soil temperature, salinity).

  5. Set Date Range

    • Use the Time Selector to choose preset timeframes:

      • 24 hours, 7 days, 14 days, 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year.

    • To review a specific timeframe, click the calendar icon and define a custom date range, allowing access to data spanning a full year or longer.

  6. Choose Chart Type

    • Data Table – Data displayed in a sortable table and available for CSV download.

    • Timeline Chart – Analyze one measurement type over time.

    • Mixed Line Chart – Compare two or more measurement types in a single graph. Measurements can be selected from different areas, places, or supported sensor types.

    • Performance Pie, Mean Comparison, and Single KPI – Advanced visualizations for evaluating thresholds, averages, or key metrics.

  7. Adjust Mean Selector

    • Use the Mean Selector to change how data is averaged:

      • 1h → Every hourly data point sampled by the Spiio soil sensor.

      • 4h → Data averaged over 4-hour intervals.

      • 1d → Daily averages of sensor readings.

    • This helps smooth out raw data for easier long-term analysis.

  8. Using Threshold Backgrounds - Thresholds can be displayed directly on supported charts as a visual background.

    1. Supported measurements, including Light (Lux), display threshold ranges to help identify when values are above, below, or within your desired operating ranges.

  9. Export Data

    • You can export your analysis for reporting or sharing.

      • Download CSV – Export the underlying dataset for offline analysis.

      • Download PNG – Export the current chart as an image. PNG exports include a chart legend for easier reference when sharing or presenting results..

  10. Save as Dashboard Widget

    • Click Save View → Save and go to Dashboard to make the same view available in your Dashboard for quick access.

Tips and Best Practices

  • If your chart appears empty, check your date range and selected sensors.

  • Use timeline charts for single-metric focus and mixed line charts to explore correlations between two measurements.

  • Compare multiple measurements on the same chart to identify relationships between environmental conditions and soil performance.

  • Use threshold backgrounds to quickly visualize whether readings are within acceptable ranges.

  • Compare data from different areas or sensor types to better understand conditions across your facility.

  • The calendar function is ideal for analyzing custom ranges across seasons or full-year datasets.

  • The Mean Selector is useful for reducing data “noise” when working with large datasets.

  • Save your most-used views as Dashboard widgets to avoid reapplying filters every time.
