Wello wallet is built with strong security measures to keep your funds safe and under your control.
Self-custodial: Only you can access your funds. Wello does not store or control your private key.
Encrypted storage: Your private key is encrypted and stored securely in your device's keychain. This ensures that your sensitive information remains protected on your device.
Explicit transaction approvals: Every transaction requires your approval. Wello cannot move funds on your behalf.
Best Practices for Securing Your Private Key:
At Wello, your wallet is self-custodial, which means you have full control over your assets β including your private and public keys.
Think of your private key like the password to your digital vault. Anyone who has it can access your funds.
With great power comes great responsibility! Here are some best practices to help keep your wallet safe:
Backup your secret key: Store multiple secure backups of your secret key or recovery phrase, ideally in separate locations (e.g., a hardware wallet, a printed copy stored in a safe place, or encrypted cloud storage).
Don't rely on screenshots: Avoid saving your private key in your photos app, email or notes app β these are easier targets for hackers.
Avoid sharing your information: Do not store your private key or recovery phrase in unsecured files or share them via email, messaging apps, or screenshots.
Use strong passwords: Ensure your device, keychain, and wallet are protected by a strong, unique password or biometric authentication.
Beware of phishing: Never share your private key with anyone claiming to be Wello or any other service. Wello will never ask for your private key.
Keep software updated: Regularly update your wallet app and device firmware to benefit from the latest security improvements.
Currently, Wello doesn't support a secret recovery phrase feature β so protecting your private key is crucial. If it's lost, we won't be able to recover your wallet for you.
Following these best practices will help minimize the risk of unauthorized access to your wallet and funds.
