How secure is my Wello wallet?
Updated over 2 months ago

Wello wallet is built with strong security measures to keep your funds safe and under your control.

  • Self-custodial: Only you can access your funds. Wello does not store or control your private key.

  • Encrypted storage: Your private key is encrypted and stored securely in your device's keychain. This ensures that your sensitive information remains protected on your device.

  • Explicit transaction approvals: Every transaction requires your approval. Wello cannot move funds on your behalf.

Please make sure that your passkey and secret key are stored safely.

Best Practices for Securing Your Private Key:

  • Backup your secret key: Store multiple secure backups of your secret key or recovery phrase, ideally in separate locations (e.g., a hardware wallet, secure offline storage, or encrypted cloud storage).

  • Avoid sharing your information: Do not store your private key or recovery phrase in unsecured files or share them via email, messaging apps, or screenshots.

  • Use strong passwords: Ensure your device, keychain, and wallet are protected by a strong, unique password or biometric authentication.

  • Beware of phishing: Never share your private key with anyone claiming to be Wello or any other service. Wello will never ask for your private key.

  • Keep software updated: Regularly update your wallet app and device firmware to benefit from the latest security improvements.

Following these best practices will help minimize the risk of unauthorized access to your wallet and funds.
