Review your dental findings and share a report from the same recording as your clinical notes. Whippet drafts a Dental Chart for permanent dog and cat teeth, with tooth numbers, statuses and clinical notes you can correct before saving.
The Dental Chart tab appears on the consult page when the recording contains chartable dental findings for a dog or cat. A Canine or Feline badge identifies the chart. During processing, you may see the chart before editing becomes available.
Reading the chart
The patient's right is on your left. Teeth use modified Triadan numbers: 42 permanent teeth for dogs and 30 for cats.
The legend explains each status:
Not evaluated — an unfilled outline. No evaluation is recorded for this tooth.
Evaluated — green. The tooth has been recorded as examined; this label alone does not establish that it is normal. Read its clinical note.
Missing — grey. The tooth is recorded as absent, which may include a previous extraction.
Extracted — red with an X. Extraction was documented as performed during this visit.
Treatment — orange with a ring. Read the note for the finding, recommendation or treatment decision.
Unmentioned teeth normally remain Not evaluated. A recording that explicitly establishes the remaining teeth were examined and needed no action can mark them Evaluated. The report explains which default applies.
Planned extraction must remain distinct from completed extraction. For example, “108 needs extraction” belongs under Treatment, with the plan in the note. “108 was extracted today” belongs under Extracted. Record declined or deferred work in the clinical note too. Always review the generated chart against what happened.
Correcting a tooth
Select a tooth on the diagram, or select an entry under Recorded findings.
In Tooth status, choose the intended status. Selecting a tooth on the diagram does not change it.
Edit its Clinical note to record findings, planned work and completed treatment.
Select Save to keep your changes.
Changing the status preserves the note. To choose Not evaluated, clear the note first. Choose a status before adding a note to an unevaluated tooth.
The footer shows Unsaved changes until you save. Reset discards your local edits and loads the latest saved chart. Your saved corrections take precedence over the generated version.
If the saved chart changes while you are editing, a message explains the choice: Reset loads the latest saved version; Save replaces it with your current changes. If an older chart contains multiple entries for one tooth, review the combined notes before editing it into one finding.
Exporting a dental report
Use the buttons above the chart:
Copy image — copy a report image to paste into a system that accepts images.
PNG — download the report as an image attachment.
PDF report — download a printable report, with findings continuing across pages when needed.
Each report includes the patient name and consultation date when available, species, diagram, legend, recorded findings and clinical notes. Missing patient or date details show Not recorded. Files use the patient and consultation date in their name when available.
Exports include your current edits. Unsaved edits are labelled Draft · unsaved changes; saved reports say Saved chart. Exporting does not save your changes in Whippet, and “Saved chart” does not indicate clinical approval. Select Save separately when your review is complete.
Attach or paste the report into your practice management system as its workflow permits. For written notes, see Copying your notes.
If something goes wrong
No Dental Chart tab: the recording may not contain chartable findings for a dog or cat.
Editing is unavailable: wait for processing to finish. Editing is also paused while a save is in progress.
Saving fails: keep the page open and try Save again; refreshing can discard unsaved edits.
Image copying fails: use PNG and attach the file instead.
The report is too long for an image: use PDF report to retain every finding.
PDF report is disabled: PDF export is not configured for this environment. PNG and image copying remain available.
What this doesn't do (yet)
Chart species other than dogs and cats, or deciduous and mixed dentition.
Provide a full periodontal chart with structured probing measurements and multiple diagnoses per tooth.
Embed the chart in your note template or downloaded note files. Export the dental report separately.
Populate your PMS's native dental-chart fields automatically.
Replace a complete dental examination or the rest of the clinical record.
