The Whippet Notes Chrome extension puts Whippet in a panel beside ezyVet. You record the consult, review the notes and push each part of the note into the right ezyVet field, all without leaving the patient record.
Install the extension
In Google Chrome, open the Whippet Notes extension on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Whippet Notes, so its icon is always one click away.
Click the Whippet icon. The Whippet panel opens on the right-hand side of the window.
If you already had the older Whippet extension, Chrome updates it to the new one for you.
Connect your Whippet account
The extension has no password box of its own. It uses your Whippet web app sign-in.
In the panel, click Connect to Whippet. A Whippet tab opens.
Sign in if you're asked to. The page shows Connected. You can close this tab.
Close the tab. The panel is now signed in as you.
You only need to do this once per computer. You stay signed in when Chrome restarts. To switch to a different vet, open the account menu at the top of the panel and choose Sign out.
Record a consult
Open the patient in ezyVet. The panel shows Open in ezyVet, with the patient's name, and fills that name in for you.
Pick your template, then click Start recording. Use Pause and Resume as you need.
Click Stop & review, then Upload & draft note. The consult opens in the panel and the notes appear as Whippet writes them.
The first time you record, the panel asks for microphone access. Click Allow microphone and allow it in the tab that opens. That one approval covers the whole extension.
You can keep using ezyVet while you record. Switching patients or tabs doesn't stop the recording. Recent lists your consults from the last 7 days. If the patient on screen in ezyVet already has a consult, Open consult takes you straight to it.
Push the note into ezyVet
Read the note and make any edits. Save your changes first: you can't push while there are unsaved edits.
With the same patient open in ezyVet, click Push to ezyVet above the note.
A review shows which ezyVet field each part of the note will go into, for example History, Physical Exam, Assessments and Plan. Text that doesn't belong in any field is listed under Not sent and stays in Whippet.
Click Push. Whippet fills each field and saves it, then tells you what happened, for example Pushed 4 fields.
To push just one part of the note, hover over that section and click its Push to ezyVet button. That updates the matching field only.
Whippet adds to each field and never deletes what's already there. Anything you or a colleague typed into the field is kept.
If something goes wrong
"Open an ezyVet patient record before pushing." Open the patient's record in ezyVet in the same window as the panel, then push again.
"This consult belongs to … the record on screen is …" The note is for a different patient, or a different visit, from the one open in ezyVet. Open the matching record. Whippet won't write a note into the wrong patient.
Everything is under Not sent. The note's template hasn't been set up for ezyVet yet. Copy the text from the note for now, and contact us so we can set up the template.
A field shows as unconfirmed. Whippet couldn't confirm that ezyVet saved it. Check that field in ezyVet before you push again, so you don't add a second copy.
ezyVet asks you to choose a Vet. If Whippet can't tell which vet to put on the entry, it leaves the note in ezyVet's open form. Choose the vet and click Add.
ezyVet has locked your session. Unlock ezyVet, then push again. Whippet doesn't write into a locked record.
The Push button is greyed out. The notes are still being written, or you have unsaved edits. Wait for the notes to finish, or save your edits.
What this doesn't do (yet)
Work outside Chrome. The extension is for Google Chrome on a computer.
Fill every ezyVet field. Only fields your templates are set up for receive text. Fields that are switched off in your ezyVet, such as Recheck, are skipped.
Replace an earlier push. Pushing again adds a second entry to History, Physical Exam, Assessments and Plan. The review marks a field Whippet already pushed with Already pushed, and the button then reads Push again.
Push into Ascend or RxWorks. Those practices get notes through the automatic transfer instead. See Sending finished notes to your practice management system.
Show the transcript or key information. For those, open the consult in the web app from the account menu (Open Whippet).
