Section tags mark where each part of a template starts and ends — history, examination, plan and so on. Notes generated from the template keep the same sections, so you can copy one part of a note on its own, for example straight into the matching field of your practice management system. You can ask Whippet to add the tags to a whole template in one go.
How to add section tags to a template
Open a saved template in the Template Builder. The Add section tags button only appears after the template exists — save a new one first, then come back.
Click Add section tags in the editor toolbar.
A preview streams in below your original. Wait for it to finish, then choose Accept (replace the template with the sectioned version), Discard (keep the original), or Regenerate (try again).
Accept only stages the change — click Save / Update Template to keep it. If you accept and change your mind, Ctrl/Cmd+Z restores the original in one step.
Whippet starts a new section at each heading and leaves the wording of your template exactly as it is. Running Add section tags a second time on a template that is already split into sections should change nothing.
New templates started from Small Animals, Large Animals, and the other clinical starters are already split into sections. Use the button for templates you built yourself, or older templates that were never sectioned.
Using sections in a note
Hover over a section of a generated note and Copy and Copy MD buttons appear at its bottom-right. See Copying your notes for how the copy adapts to where you paste.
If something goes wrong
There is no Add section tags button. You are creating a new template that has not been saved yet, or the editor's rewrite connection is not available. Save the template, then reopen it.
"This template is too long to tag in one go." Very long templates cannot be sectioned in a single pass. Shorten the template and try again.
Accept is refused, or the preview looks cut off. The rewrite stopped before every section was closed, or it changed your template's wording. Click Discard or Regenerate, then try again.
What this doesn't do (yet)
Tag an unsaved template. Save it first, then reopen it — Add section tags only appears on a saved template.
Change notes that have already been generated. Sections come from the template; existing consult notes keep the sections they were generated with until you generate a new note from the updated template.
Send notes into your practice management system. Sections make a note easy to copy part by part; pasting is still up to you.
