Why it matters
The Activities tab within a conversation is the single source of truth for everything that has happened with a contact. It shows who took each action, when it happened, and whether actions were manual, automated, or handled by an AI agent. This ensures full context, accountability, and clarity before you reply or take next steps.
Key Concepts
Activities tab: A tab within an individual conversation that displays a chronological timeline of all actions and events related to that contact.
Activity entry: A single logged item in the timeline, such as a sent message, call, note, or system event.
User attribution: Each activity shows the user or agent who completed the action, along with a timestamp.
Automated by Whippy: A label shown under messages that were sent automatically by Whippy, including messages sent by AI agents, campaigns, or sequences.
Internal note: A private note added by a user, displayed in a yellow-style card and visible only to your team.
Failed message: A message that did not send successfully, clearly marked in red in the activity timeline.
Step-by-Step: Open the Activities Tab in a Conversation
Open the Omnichannel Inbox.
Locate and open the conversation you want to review.
In the conversation view, click the Activities tab.
Review the activity timeline from top to bottom.
The timeline is ordered chronologically and updates as new actions occur.
What the Activities Tab Shows
Messages
All inbound and outbound messages appear in the timeline.
Messages show:
The message content
The time sent or received
The user or agent who sent it
Messages sent by users display the user’s profile picture.
Messages sent automatically show the label “Automated by Whippy” under the message.
If a message fails to send:
The message remains visible in the timeline.
A red label appears stating message failed to send.
Calls
Inbound and outbound calls appear as activity entries.
Each call shows:
Call status (for example, in progress, ended, missed)
Timestamp
The user or agent involved
AI Agent Activity
Messages or calls handled by an AI agent appear in the same timeline.
These entries are clearly identified as automated.
This allows users to see exactly when an agent participated and what actions it took.
Campaign and Sequence Messages
Messages sent as part of a campaign or sequence appear as activity entries.
These messages are labelled as automated so they are distinguishable from manual user messages.
Internal Notes
Notes added by users appear directly in the activity timeline.
Notes are displayed in a yellow-style card.
Each note includes:
The note content
The user who added it
The timestamp
Notes appear in chronological order based on when they were added.
Mentions and System Events
Mentions of users within the conversation are logged as activity entries.
Other system events also appear, providing a full record of conversation-related actions.
How to Read the Timeline
For every activity entry, you can see:
What action occurred
When it occurred
Who completed it (user or agent)
This makes it easy to understand:
How the conversation started
When automation or AI agents were involved
When a human stepped in
Whether any messages failed or required follow-up
Tips and Best Practices
Always review the Activities tab before replying to understand full context.
Look for Automated by Whippy labels to identify agent, campaign, or sequence messages.
Check for failed message indicators if a contact did not respond as expected.
Use internal notes to leave context for teammates without messaging the contact.
Use timestamps and attribution for audits or handovers between users.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Possible Cause | Fix |

Missing recent activity | Page not refreshed | Refresh the page and reopen the conversation |
Confusing sender | Automated message | Look for the Automated by Whippy label |
