Whitelisting your BTC wallet in Wickie: why one address is enough

In this article, learn why some wallets generate new BTC addresses and why your previously whitelisted address in Wickie still works.

At Wickie, your crypto wallet address always stays the same.

However, some external crypto wallet providers (such as exchanges or non-custodial wallets) automatically generate a new BTC address every time you click “Receive.”

This often creates confusion — especially when you have already whitelisted a wallet in Wickie.

Let’s clarify how this works.

Why some wallets generate a new BTC address every time

Many modern Bitcoin wallets use something called HD wallet technology (Hierarchical Deterministic wallet).

This means:

  • Your wallet is created from one master seed

  • It can generate many different BTC addresses

  • All those addresses belong to the same wallet

The main reason for generating new addresses is privacy.
Using a new address for each transaction makes it harder for others to track your transaction history on the blockchain.

Important: old BTC addresses still work

Even if your wallet shows you a new address when you click “Receive”:

✅ All previously generated addresses are still valid
✅ BTC sent to an older address will still arrive in your wallet
✅ You do NOT lose access to funds sent to old addresses

As long as the address was originally generated by your wallet, it remains connected to your wallet.

This is how standard Bitcoin wallets are designed to work.

What this means for Wickie withdrawals

If you have already:

  • Copied a BTC address from your wallet

  • Whitelisted it in your Wickie app

And later your wallet shows a different “new” BTC address —

👉 You do NOT need to whitelist a new address.
👉 You can continue using the previously whitelisted address.

Your funds will still arrive safely.

Why This Matters

When external wallets automatically generate a new BTC address each time you click “Receive”, it may create confusion during the wallet input and whitelisting process.

For example:

  • You input and whitelist your BTC wallet address in Wickie

  • Later, your wallet displays a newly generated address

  • You assume you must input and whitelist the new address again

In most cases, this is not necessary.

Previously generated BTC addresses remain valid and continue to receive funds. This means you can keep using the same BTC address that you originally entered and whitelisted in your Wickie app, without repeating the whitelist process.

Our recommendation

To avoid unnecessary re-whitelisting:

  • Use the same BTC address that you originally whitelisted

  • Do not replace it just because your wallet displays a new receive address

  • Only update it if your wallet provider explicitly states that old addresses expire (which is rare for standard BTC wallets)

When should you whitelist a new address?

You should only whitelist a new BTC address if:

  • You are using a completely different wallet

  • Your wallet provider specifically tells you old addresses expire

  • You no longer have access to the previous wallet

If you are ever unsure whether your address can still be used, please contact your wallet provider’s support or reach out to Wickie Support — we’ll gladly help.
