BETA: To access this feature, contact us at support@withfriends.co.  It is under development.

Why honorary memberships?

There are many cases in which you would want to bless someone with an honorary membership.

Just to name a few types of people who might need them you've got: family members, staff, volunteers, high value donors, investors, members from your old Patreon/Drip/Paypal account, and more.

We make it super easy to give a membership to those who deserve it, at whatever tier makes sense for them.

Create honorary membership levels

To get started, just sign in to your dashboard

https://withfriends.co/

Scroll to the bottom of your dashboard to find the membership area and select the "Manage Honorary Members" button

In there you'll find a whole area dedicated to setting up various levels which you can use to match existing ones if you had Patreon or setup up new ones for discounts at events and rewards.

Creating Honorary Member Benefits

Honorary member levels are just like normal member levels, but a little less full-featured, and currently in our prototype interface.

Kinds of Honorary Members

Withfriends allows you to import honorary members as Volunteers, Donors, or Friends.  The only difference between these three is that the language we use treats them a little special.   Volunteers will be treated as people who have helped out.  Donors will be treated as people who have financially contributed.  Friends will have no special language at all, and be more cut & dry.

Donor data - just ignore this!

You'll notice you add donor data like how the donor paid, and how much they paid, etc.  The idea is for you to help keep track of where your members come from, but it has no impact on Withfriends.

You can ignore these optiosn entirely, unless you're migrating from a previous memberships platform.

Migrating from Drip/Kickstarter/Patreon

If you're migrating from a previous platform, here are some instructions for that! In that case, you will use the donor data section just to select "Patreon".

More guidance:

Importing Members

Add members one-by-one

You can add a member by name, email, and expiration date on at a time.  Don't forget to click Save.  We'll warn you if you forget.

Add members by CSV

Here are the CSV rules:

  • Make sure your CSV file has these three fields: Name, Email, Until

  • Include a header row with those name, or Withfriends will just assume that the first three columns correspond to these field.s

  • Names and Emails are required per row, Until can be blank.  Until represents the expiration date of the member benefits.

  • Other columns are ok - Withfriends will just ignore them.

Expiration dates

Include an expiration date, and honorary member benefits will expire on that date.

Viewing your imported members

Visit your member management dashboard to see your imported members.  You'll see the members tiers listed in the dropdown, and they'll be specially marked.

You can now contact them and treat them like any other member on Withfriends.

They will also be specially marked on your member export CSV.

More about that here:

At the moment, honorary expiration dates only show up in the export CSV.

Managing your imported members

To end an honorary membership, simple press the cancel X button on the right.

To change their expiration date, write us at support@withfriends.co

To change their level, import the member into the intended level.  Withfriends will change their plan and send them a new welcome letter.

Offering honorary members the opportunity to support you

Upcoming: When honorary members expire, Withfriends can upsell them onto being paying sustaining members!

Now: We have something close.  Honorary members receive our weekly members newsletter  - and after they expire, they'll have easy-access button to "Reactivate" their membership.
