You can add a video in Schoology anywhere there is a rich text editor including pages, assignments, assessments, and discussions. A best practice is adding videos in a page so the video logically flows with the rest of your content. Having your video on a page provides students with a quick and easy viewing method.

The following media file types can be added to Schoology pages: .mp4, .mp3, .mov, .m4v, .m4a, .avi, .wma, .wmv.

Create your own video or download a copyright-free video, then upload the video to your WIU Google Drive folder. Make sure the file permissions are set to Anyone with the link can view. We're going to insert a short copyright-free video from Pixabay that we uploaded to a WIU Google Drive folder.

Navigate to your Schoology course. Expand the folder where the page resides that you want to edit. To the right of the page name, click the gear icon and then click Edit.

In the content area, add text to introduce the video to your students, explain the relevance to your content (if applicable), and include the video’s length. Also, consider providing questions for students to think about as they view the video.

Below your introductory text, place the cursor where you want to insert the video, click Insert Content (1) from the rich text editor toolbar, and then click Google Drive Resource App (2).

NOTE: If you don’t see any items in the folder, you will need to log into your WIU Google Drive account.

Click Options at the top left and then click Account Settings.

Click Sign in with Google and log into your WIU Google Drive account. Your items should now be visible.

Locate your video. Use the Search box at the top right to more quickly locate your video in Google Drive.

Once you locate your video, check the box to the left of the video’s title. This will enable the Import drop-down menu to appear.

From the Import drop-down menu, click Import Embed.

If required, add the attribution below the video player placeholder (yellow rectangle). Here is a format example when the video has a CC0 license. Remember to underline the links and have them open in a new tab.

  • Video: CC license + author’s name hyperlinked to video + website’s name hyperlinked to the website.

  • This is how it will appear on the page > Image: CC0 by F1 Digitals from Pixabay

Once you’re done editing the page, click Save Changes. After you click Save Changes, you’ll be able to see the video. If desired, you can resize the video player by editing the page, clicking the yellow rectangle, and dragging the corners in or out.

The video will now be displayed on the page. If needed, edit the page again to continue adding content or adjusting the video player size. Students can view the video in full screen by clicking the Pop-out icon at the top right of the video player.
