In this article, you'll learn how to add a model response to an assignment. Adding model writing is a great way to demonstrate expectations for an assignment. Assignments with a modeled response give students the opportunity to review the writing using the same assignment rubric they will be graded on.

  1. Click 'My Assignments' and find the assignment you’d like to edit.

❗ Note: It's best to edit assignments that have not been assigned yet. Some editing features are disabled once assignments have been assigned to students. If editing an assignment that students have already started, please keep in mind how your changes may impact existing work.

  2. Then, click on the 'Edit' button.

  3. In the 'Prompt' section, click the three-lined icon and select 'Create Model Response'.

  4. Click 'Create'.

  5. Type or paste your sample writing into the text box.

  6. Click 'Submit' and then click 'Submit' one more time.

  7. Then click 'OK'.

  8. Complete a review of your model. These scores will be used as an 'answer key' for students when they review the model writing. Use the rubric on the right side and select the appropriate scores. When you're finished, click 'Submit'.

  9. Click on 'Manage' to be taken back to the page to be able to assign this assignment to your students.

  10. Click on 'Assign' and select the class(es) and click 'Next'.

  11. Assign at least one peer review, and then click 'Assign'.

  12. Once assigned, students will open up the assignment and click 'Review now'. They will complete a review of the same modeled response and receive immediate feedback on whether their review matched your rubric scores.

💡Tip! Share this video with your students to guide them through reviewing writing on Writable.
