If students and teachers are having trouble accessing the Writable site or assignments, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
Log out and back in
1. Log out of your Writable account.
2. Log out of your Google (or Microsoft) accounts.
3. Log into Writable and try to open the assignment again.
Note: If you are using an HMH Ed assignment, students will need to launch from Ed in order to view the assignment's reading.
Clear browser history and cache
Try the following steps to clear your browser history and cache if the above steps did not correct the issue.
Log out of your Writable account.
Log out of your Google (or Microsoft) accounts.
Clear your cache and cookies in your browser using the directions below.
❗️If the district does not allow students to clear the browsing history or cache, a tech administrator with access to these controls will need to follow these steps for the student. |
Google Chrome
Follow these steps to clear cookies in Google Chrome:
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click "More" (three vertical dots).
Select "Delete browsing data".
At the top, choose a time range. (select "All time" to clear everything)
Check "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files".
Click "Delete data".
Firefox
Follow these steps to clear cookies in Mozilla Firefox:
On your computer, Open Firefox.
At the top right, click the menu “☰” (three horizontal lines).
Click "Settings".
Select the "Privacy & Security" panel.
In the “Cookies and Site Data” section, click “Clear Data…”.
Uncheck “Cookies and Site Data” and check “Cached Web Content”.
Click "Clear".
Close the page. Changes will be saved automatically.
Note: For more information about managing site data, see Manage local site storage settings.
Safari
Follow these steps to clear cookies in the default Mac browser, Safari:
To clear history and cookies:
Click "Safari" (top left corner of your screen).
Click "Clear History…".
To clear all history, select "All History" from the drop-down menu.
Click "Clear History" to confirm.
To clear cookies only and keep your history:
Go to “Safari > Settings > Privacy”.
Click “Manage Website Data”.
Click “Remove All”.
Note: Clearing your history, cookies, and browsing data from Safari won't change your AutoFill information.
To visit sites without leaving a history, turn Private Browsing on.
To clear cache:
First, you must enable the Develop Menu:
Open Safari, then click on the "Safari" menu in the top-left corner of your screen.
Select "Settings" (or "Preferences") from the dropdown menu.
Click the "Advanced" tab.
Check "Show features for web developers".
Then, you can empty the Cache:
Close the Settings window.
A new "Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar. Click on it.
Select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown menu.
Note: You can also use the keyboard shortcut Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + E to empty the cache quickly.
Microsoft Edge
Follow these steps to clear cookies in the Windows default browser, Microsoft Edge:
Open Microsoft Edge.
Select "Menu" (3 dots, top-right corner).
Go to "Settings > Privacy, search, and services".
Under "Clear browsing data", select "Choose what to clear."
At the top, open the "Time range" menu and select "All Time".
Check "Cached images and files" and "Cookies and other site data".
Click "Clear".
Check browser extensions
If you are using any browser extensions you can check if they are impacting your experience by disabling them. If you are using Google Chrome browser you can check this by using Incognito Mode.
Ensure permissions have been granted
Writable's list of URLs that must be permitted for the app can be found here. Pease share this with your school or district IT department to ensure the domains have been whitelisted.
If you are using Google Single Sign On (SSO), confirm that Writable has been approved as a third-party app.
