Suspended vs. Unsubscribed: What's the Difference?

Understanding what "suspended" and "unsubscribed" mean in XP.

Updated this week

These two terms can look similar at first glance, but they mean very different things in Xperiencify. Here's a quick breakdown so you always know what's going on with your students.

Suspending a Student from Your Course

Suspending a student is something you do as the course owner. It's an action you take manually when you need to restrict a student's access to your course — for example, if there's a billing issue or a terms of service violation.

What happens when a student is suspended:

  • They will no longer be able to log into your course

  • Instead of seeing their course content, they'll see a message letting them know they should reach out to you at your admin email address

  • The suspension stays in place until you lift it

Think of it like temporarily locking the door. The student's account still exists, but they can't get in.

When a Student Unsubscribes

Unsubscribing has nothing to do with course access — it's purely about email.

Legally, your students always have the right to opt out of receiving emails from you.

To make this easy, Xperiencify automatically includes an unsubscribe link in the footer of every email it sends on your behalf. You don't need to add this yourself — it will always be there.

When a student clicks that link, they're telling the email system they no longer want to receive emails from your course. That's all it means.

What happens when a student unsubscribes:

  • They can still log into their course and access all their content as normal

  • They simply won't receive course emails going forward

  • You can check their status at any time by visiting their student profile — the email toggle will show as unsubscribed.
