Yabble enables you to add basic features such as randomization and answer limits to your survey questions, as well as advanced features like survey logic, answer piping, and question blocks. Use this article to learn how to apply each of these tools and settings.

Basic options

Advanced options

Randomization

Randomizing answers is a research technique used to help eliminate answer bias. To randomly display your answer options to respondents, navigate to Toolbar > Basic options > Randomized.

You can use the lock key to fix certain answers in place, such as “None of these” or “Don’t know.”

Limits

To limit the number of options respondents can select, navigate to Toolbar > Basic options > Limits > Limited, and enter the number you’d like to limit answer selections to.

An example of when you’d use limits: if you want respondents to select their top 3 answers from a list of statements.

Column display

Column display allows you to change how answers are displayed onscreen. You can choose single column, double column, or multi. Multi-column displays 6 answers per row.

Note: all lists will be displayed as single column when a respondent is completing a survey via mobile device.

Top tip: When adding images to your question, use multi-column for the best view. Images should be consistently sized when you’re uploading them alongside answer options.

Alerts

Alerts will notify you immediately when a particular action is taken in your survey. For example: say you want to be notified right away if a customer’s had a poor experience during a visit to your store or website. Alerts would allow you to do this.

These alerts can be set to notify you of individual results, an ongoing average, or both.

Setting an alert

  1. Create a question using one of the alert-compatible question types (more on this just below).

  2. Navigate to Toolbar > Advanced options > Alert > New alert.

  3. Add your alert instructions: individual or average, action taken, and which user/s should be notified.

  4. Select the Yabble user/s who should receive the alert notification by typing their name/s in the user field.

In the example below, if an individual respondent provides an NPS rating of 3 or less, the user indicated will be sent an email. You’ll be directly linked to the individual’s survey responses and able to view any other alerts currently set on your survey.

Compatible question types

You can set alerts on the following question types:

What else can I do to improve my customers’ experiences? You can follow any of these question types with a text-based question asking why they had a poor experience. If it’s a particularly sensitive topic, ask the respondent’s permission to contact them with a follow-up call or email.

Terminal question

Most users want to maximize the number of responses they receive in a survey. You can dictate a point in your survey where someone is marked as “complete” by setting a question as terminal, even if the respondent hasn’t finished the whole survey.

This allows you to view these survey responses in the summary page even if a respondent has skipped the last few questions.

For example: say I’ve asked my key questions but have a few remaining demographic or “Any last comments?” questions. Set your terminal on the last key question in your survey.
