Pergolas can very quickly add significant cost to your project, so it’s important to consider your budget when selecting your pergola or if an alternative structure would be more appropriate.
Factors that can drive up the cost of a pergola include the number of different materials used (simpler tends to be less costly), the labor required to construct it, and whether a permit is required to attach a pergola to a structure.
Freestanding Pergolas
Our most popular shade structure is a prefabricated, freestanding pergola that can be purchased and assembled by your landscape contractor.
If hiring a landscape pro to install your pergola (which we recommend), you can expect the assembly and post footings to run around $2k-$6k in addition to the cost of the pergola.
For the example shown above, materials, labor, and construction would cost a total of about $8,000.
Attached Pergolas
Attached Pergolas can add a "built-in" patio feel if attached over a doorway like this while freeing up additional patio space by eliminating two posts.
Permits may be required to attach a pergola to a house and can add significant cost and complexity to the pergola installation.
For the example shown above, materials, labor, and construction would cost a total of about $10,000.
Cantilevered Pergolas
If space is an issue, a cantilevered pergola could be a solution. However, they are also quite expensive since they are usually custom-designed and difficult to build.
For the example shown above, materials, labor, and construction would cost a total of about $30,000.
