Decks consist of a structural frame with a decking surface that sits on top of the frame. Decks are usually made of wood or composite wood material. Like patios, decks can be either attached to a house or freestanding to create a new zone in the yard. Learn more about the types of decks below!

Elevating decks to a certain height or placing them at the top of a sloped property can be a great way to take advantage of scenic views. You can use decks as a place to put other landscape elements like outdoor kitchens, pergolas, hot tubs, and gas-burning fire pits.

Attached Decks

Attached decks are connected to a house. Decks like this can feel like an extension of the home and are a wonderful place for dining, outdoor kitchens, or lounge areas.

Freestanding Decks

A freestanding deck is simply a deck that isn’t connected to the house. Freestanding decks are good for large properties. While costly, they can also be a good solution for creating flat space above sloped yards. Freestanding decks offer all of the same function and appeal as an attached deck.

Multi-level Decks

The most expensive decks to construct are multi-leveled. Usually, each level is designed to be used for a different function. Multi-level decks are a great choice for high-budget landscape projects on large slopes. Not only do they create more functional space, but they also add strong visual appeal as elaborate, beautiful structures.
