Safety is our number one priority here at Young Heroes. But how does the StartPlaying team make sure every Dungeon Master is knowledgeable, safe, and experienced?
Dungeon Master Onboarding
All potential Dungeon Masters need to complete and pass an online Dungeon Master for Kids Onboarding on LearnWorlds in order to submit their application. This course covers the rules and expectations for running games for kids and teens.
Dungeon Masters must complete this 2-3 hour course and receive a passing grade on each of the quizzes to unlock your completion certificate. Without the completion certificate, they cannot submit their application.
Dungeon Master Application
All Dungeon Masters submit an application that is hand-reviewed by a member of the StartPlaying team.
After Dungeon Masters fill out their basic information and experience, this application features 21 short-answer questions that assess a Dungeon Master's:
Understanding of our Terms of Service
Understanding of our Safety Requirements for running games on Young Heroes
Experience running games for kids and teens
Table management skills
If a member of the StartPlaying team finds answers that are incorrect, below standard, AI-generated, or unprofessional, the application will not be approved.
Parent References
All Dungeon Masters are required to provide references from 5 past parents of kids or teens they have run games for.
These references will show up as reviews on the Dungeon Master's profile.
Dungeon Masters cannot submit their application until they have 5 references.
Background Check
Once an application is approved, Dungeon Masters must also go through a background check through Checkr.
This 8-point background check covers:
Identity Verification with an alias check
County Criminal Search
Federal Criminal Search
Global Watchlist Search
National Criminal Search
Sex Offender Search
SSN Trace
State Criminal Search
If a Dungeon Master does not pass this background check, they are removed from the Young Heroes platform.
