Why would payout wallets or fees vary by employee?
ZayZoon operates in all U.S. geographies and across Canada. Because EWA rules vary by state, we tailor available payout options to ensure full compliance — without adding any extra work for employers.
State regulations may require:
a fee-free payout option
limits on fees
limits on frequency or payout amounts
restrictions on which payout methods can be used
disclosures or state-specific terms
To keep things simple, ZayZoon automatically applies the correct rules based on each employee’s location.
How will employees know which wallets are available to them?
ZayZoon will automatically adjust the wallets and fees for your employees in the app.
For this reason, your employees may see different payout options or fees than employees in other states.
However, all employees always have:
access to at least one fee-free payout method, and
a fully compliant experience for their state.
No changes are required on your end — ZayZoon handles compliance, licensing, reporting, and system logic.
Your employees can also learn about their various wallet options in our Employee Help Center.
Which states have exceptions?
ZayZoon ensures employees always have a no-cost option and that ZayZoon complies with state regulations. Some state-level exceptions are:
New York, Maryland, South Carolina = Free Next Day ACH
Only $0 fee payout methods are available.
Wisconsin
All payout methods are fee-free.
Connecticut
You may see either fee-free options only or a small fee for your first paid payout in a pay period. After that, only $0 fee options will appear.
Other States
All other states = $5.00 Next Day ACH
How does ZayZoon ensure compliance?
ZayZoon manages all regulatory requirements behind the scenes. This includes:
licensing or registration (where required)
system rules that match state requirements
automatic updates when laws change
ensuring all employees always have a compliant experience
clear display of fees to employees before every payout
There is no additional administrative work required for your payroll team.
How do I talk to employees about these differences?
If employees ask why their fees or payout options look different, here are customer-safe talking points:
“Payout options vary by state because every state has its own Earned Wage Access regulations.”
“In every state, ZayZoon ensures at least one fee-free option is available.”
“ZayZoon automatically applies the right rules for your location — nothing changes about your employer’s payroll process.”
“These differences are compliance-driven, not based on employer decisions.”
Does this change how our payroll system works?
No. ZayZoon manages all compliance and logic. Your payroll process stays exactly
the same.
Will our employees always have a no-cost option?
Yes. This is guaranteed in every state.
What if employees are concerned about fee differences?
