This video shows how you can use a free Cloudflare account to easily add your existing domain, or a subdomain to your platform for use in funnels and websites. Use this when you want your own domain for a ZipLeads funnel or website.

You can get started with Cloudflare at https://dash.cloudflare.com/sign-up

Before you start

  • A free Cloudflare account

  • Login details for the domain registrar where the domain is registered (GoDaddy in this example)

  • A funnel or website already built in ZipLeads to link the domain to

1. Open the Domains settings in ZipLeads

  • In the left menu click Settings.

  • Open the Domains tab in the row of settings tabs.

  • Check which domains are already connected for this sub-account.

2. Add the site to Cloudflare

  • Log in to Cloudflare and click + Add site.

  • Type the root domain (for example theloopeffect.com) into the Enter your site field.

  • Click Add site and choose the Free plan when prompted.

Tip: Enter the root domain only, with no www and no https://.

For example 'theloopeffect.com'

3. Copy the Cloudflare nameservers

  • Cloudflare shows the two nameservers it wants you to use under Replace with Cloudflare's nameservers.

  • Note the registrar nameservers listed under Remove these nameservers (ns51.domaincontrol.com and ns52.domaincontrol.com for GoDaddy).

  • Click Click to copy under Nameserver 1, then come back for Nameserver 2.

Step 3

Watch out: Do not click 'Done, check nameservers' yet. Change the nameservers at the registrar first.

4. Replace the nameservers at your registrar

  • Log in to the registrar (GoDaddy in this example) and open the domain's settings.

  • Scroll to the nameserver section, choose to use custom nameservers and remove the existing ones

  • Paste in the two Cloudflare nameservers and save.

5. Tell Cloudflare to check the nameservers

  • Go back to the Cloudflare tab.

  • Click Done, check nameservers.

Step 5

6. Wait for Cloudflare to activate the domain

  • In the left side menu under Speed > Settings > Click Enable all Settings

  • In Cloudflare Refresh the Cloudflare Overview page until the warning that the site is not yet active disappears.

7. Open the DNS records in Cloudflare

  • Click the DNS icon in the Cloudflare toolbar.

  • Review the records Cloudflare imported from the registrar: an A record for the root domain, a CNAME for www and a _domainconnect CNAME.

Step 7

8. Delete the existing www CNAME record

  • On the CNAME row named www, click Delete.

  • In the Delete record confirmation box click Delete again.

Step 8

Watch out: Only remove the www record. Leave the A record for the root domain in place.

9. Add the domain in ZipLeads to get the record details

  • Back in ZipLeads, on the Domains tab click + Add New Domain.

  • Type the full domain you want to connect, for example www.theloopeffect.com, into the Add your own domain field.

  • Read the note: it tells you to add either an A record pointing to the IP shown or a CNAME record pointing to funnels.msgsndr.com for that domain.

Step 9

Tip: Highlight and copy the CNAME value from the note so you can paste it straight into Cloudflare.

10. Create the www CNAME record in Cloudflare

  • In Cloudflare DNS click + Add record.

  • Set Type to CNAME, Name to www and Content to funnels.msgsndr.com.

  • Set Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud), then save the record.

Step 10

Watch out: The ZipLeads record must be DNS only. If it is left Proxied (orange cloud) the funnel will not load correctly.

11. Save the domain in ZipLeads

  • Return to the Add Domain box in ZipLeads and click Add.

12. Link the domain to a funnel

  • In the Link Domain to Funnel box, open Select Funnel for Domain and pick the funnel or website you want on this domain.

  • Click Link Domain.

Tip: If you are not ready to link it yet, click Cancel. You can link it later from the funnel's Settings tab.

13. Repeat for any subdomains

  • Click + Add New Domain again and enter the subdomain, for example offers.theloopeffect.com.

  • Note that the CNAME instruction now names the subdomain (offers) instead of www.

  • Add the matching CNAME record in Cloudflare, pointing to funnels.msgsndr.com with Proxy status set to DNS only, then click Add in ZipLeads.

Step 13

Tip: A subdomain such as offers is handy for funnels, while www is normally used for the main website.

14. Check the domain list

  • Back on the Domains tab, confirm the new domains now appear in the list.

  • A 'Manage' button allows you to further edit your custom domain set-up

15. Confirm the domain on the funnel

  • Open the funnel from Funnels and Websites, then click the Settings tab.

  • Check the Domain field shows the domain you connected. Use Add/Edit Domains underneath if you need to change it.

  • Click Save.

Notes

  • Cloudflare is free for this purpose and also gives you SSL and basic security on the domain.

  • Nameserver changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate, so allow time before expecting the funnel to load on the new domain.
