Warnings explained
Updated over 8 months ago

Various warnings have been incorporated into ODST to alarm the user if an input is considered abnormal. The warnings are mostly for information, and will not block the user from moving forward with their operation. It is up to the user to decide if the warnings must be addressed.

Warnings are given as pop-ups cards or with a yellow exclamation mark ❗ Hover the mark to read the warning(s) ❗

Below is an explanation of each warning which can be encounter:

  • Step end date extends beyond the forecast

The weather is typically forecasted 5-10 days. If a step has an end date later than the last forecast index you will not have the full forecast of the activity, and thus a warning is given.

  • Two or more steps overlap in time

  • Step duration OR activity Tsafe leads to a Tpop greater than 72h

DNV guidelines states that an alpha factor is only valid for operations with planned operational period less than 72 hours. See “Alpha factors explained” for more information.

  • Selected vessel heading is outside of the sea state table range.

In that case that the selected heading is outside of the sea state range, the operational status is not valid. Thus a warning is given. This could typically happen for a weather vaning activity where the sea state table is limited to waves coming towards the bow.

  • Weather forecast is old

The weather forecast is issued every 6-12 hours. If the time since the last issued time extends the issue frequency, the forecaster info button will turn yellow. Hover the button to read the warning.

  • The vessel is far away from the weather location

If the distance between the vessel and weather location is larger than 20 km, the predicted vessel motions will not be comparable with the measured vessel motions.

The forecaster info button will turn yellow. Hover button to read the warning.
