Packaging Design Guidelines

Reference Box Genie's design guidelines during your box's artwork preparation for optimal results.

Updated over a year ago

Use our free guide to ensure all of your expectations are met before you submit your files for print. This includes our packaging best practices including:

  • Dieline format

  • Font recommendations

  • Line widths & bleeds

  • Colors & density

  • UPC & QR code placement

  • Graphic resolution

Best Practices for Artwork Preparation

When it comes to creating your art file, please design around the following recommendations:

  • Keep artwork at least 1/8" (.125") from the blue cut lines. There is a natural shift of the paper in the production process. Maintaining the recommended distance from your cut lines prevents the artwork from being trimmed.

  • Keep artwork at least 1/8" (.125") from the red fold lines. This prevents the artwork from unintentionally being placed on the crease during the natural shifting of the paper in the production process.

Accepted File Formats

Box Genie accepts a variety of working file formats including:

  • Adobe Illustrator (.ai)

  • Encapsulated Postscript (.eps)

  • Portable Document Format (.pdf)

After finalizing your design, please upload your template to boxgenie.com in PDF format.

Designing Your Box Offline

Box Genie supports the capability to design offline. To get started designing, please reference our step-by-step guide to offline design and final template upload:

Image Files

If you are uploading an image file (such as a photo, icon, or logo) to our online designer, please ensure they are in PNG or JPEG formats. Box Genie's 3D Design Tool only accepts PNG and JPEG files.

Color Settings

As an industry best practice, all art files should be converted to CMYK. Box Genie's digital printers reproduce color using Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (CMYK) ink.

Submitting colors as RGB could significantly affect the print color during the conversion process.

Image & Graphic Resolution

For optimal results, all artwork and images should be placed at 100% with a resolution of no less than 300 Dots Per Inch (DPI) or higher.
