Why do I need to verify my identity?

A clear explanation of why identity verification is required, what we check, and how long it takes

Updated over a week ago

Short answer: CUSP is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), which requires every investment platform to verify each client's identity before they can deposit, trade, or withdraw.

This rule applies to:

  • Every licensed investment platform in the UAE

  • Every bank you already use

Verification is not a CUSP Wealth policy — it's the law we operate under, and it exists to safeguard your account.

What verification actually checks

We confirm three things:

  1. That you are who you say you are — using a government-issued ID.

  2. That the person holding the phone is the same person on the ID — using a short selfie.

  3. That your details are up to date — name, date of birth, address.

How verification safeguards you

Identity verification is the a key step that prevents:

  • Someone else opening an account in your name

  • Money being moved in or out of an account that should be yours

  • Someone impersonating you if your phone is lost or stolen

Every regulated investment platform in the UAE, UK, US, and EU requires it for the same reason.

What happens to my documents?

Your ID and selfie are used only to verify your identity. Specifically:

  • Stored in UAE-based infrastructure, encrypted at rest and in transit.

  • Never sold, shared, or used for marketing.

  • Retained only as long as required by DFSA record-keeping rules, then deleted.

  • Accessed only by authorised staff for verification and regulatory purposes.

Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

How long does it take?

  • The process itself takes less than 2 minutes. Most accounts are approved automatically within minutes.

  • In some cases — usually when a document photo is unclear or details don't match — our team does a manual review.

  • This takes up to 1 business day. If we need anything further from you, we'll email you.

What if my verification is rejected?

  • A rejection almost always means something small: a blurry photo, an expired document, or a name mismatch between your ID and what you entered.

  • You'll receive a message explaining exactly what to fix, and you can resubmit straight away. If you'd like help, reach out to us in the app and we will walk you through it.

Do I have to verify to use the app?

  • You can browse markets and explore the app without verifying. Verification is only required when you want to deposit funds, place a trade, or withdraw money — the activities that fall under financial regulation.
