Reviewing and Completing Section 2

⏱ This portion takes approximately 4 to 8 minutes, not including document inspection time or E-Verify.

Once the new hire completes Section 1, their status updates from "Invited" to "Ready for Review."

Locating the Record

Step 1: Click the "Form I-9s" tab in the employer portal.

Step 2: Find the new hire — their status will show "Ready for Review."

Step 3: Click "Ready for Review" to open the transaction.

Reviewing the Transaction

You can review everything the new hire submitted: completed Section 1 fields, selfie, ID document images, and forensic metadata.

📌 Red flags on document images indicate images were uploaded from a file rather than photographed live. Not automatically fraud, but forensically significant — review the metadata for context.

Step 1: Expand any image for a closer look, then click "Close" when done.

Step 2: Click "Begin Review" when ready to proceed.

Facial Comparison

The selfie and ID photo are displayed side by side. You must determine whether the person in the selfie matches the ID photo before conducting your document inspection.

Yes/No determination — employer records their identity authentication decision

For employers using ZipID's facial recognition feature, a biometric confidence score is displayed along with guidance on interpreting the result.

⚠️ The confidence score is a decision-support tool, not a legal determination. You must make the final identity authentication decision based on your own good-faith review.

Step 1: Review the images and confidence score.

Step 2: Click "Yes" or "No" to record your determination.

Completing Section 2 Data Fields

Step 1: Review and confirm all pre-filled Section 2 data fields. Use "Unlock" if any field needs correction.

Certifying and E-Signing Section 2

Step 1: Confirm the pre-filled employer data and check the certification checkbox.

Step 2: Click "Next: E-Sign" and apply your electronic signature.

Step 3: Optional. If E-Verify user and use “alternative method” video conference, you will be prompted and complete the date and time. This method is prompted when you choose “remote” for the new hire, in Step 1 of the process and again when during Begin Review, when asked for date and time of the video conference.

Step 3: Click "Next: Accept & Download."

The Form I-9 is now complete. The signed I-9 with supporting images is available for download and retained per federal law.
