What Qualifies as a Hostile Environment?

A hostile environment may include situations where safety is at risk, such as:

  • Presence of aggressive/violent dogs on the property.

  • Threats of violence or assault.

  • Presence of weapons or police involvement.

It is important to note that the mere presence of a dog does not automatically qualify as a hostile environment. However, if you feel unsafe, you are not required to access the property.

Step 6: Explaining in further detail beyond the initial sentence is required.

Steps to Take When Encountering a Hostile Environment

  1. Ensure Your Safety: Do not attempt to access the property if you feel unsafe. Your safety is the top priority.

  2. Document the Incident:

    • Provide detailed descriptions of the hostile situation, including what occurred, when, and any safety concerns.

    • If applicable, log incidents such as assault, threats with a weapon, or police presence.

  3. Update the Job Notes:

    • Log the incident in the job notes with specifics, including the exact date and time.

    • Take a photo of the coversheet as required.

Please provide as many details as possible regarding the hostile environment. Insufficient information may result in ABC returning the job for further clarification.

Logging a hostile environment does not fulfill diligence requirements on its own. You must still:

  • Make the required number of service attempts as per the job type.

  • Complete diligence tasks such as neighbor checks, vehicle logging, and calls when possible.

If you are in any way assaulted, threatened with a weapon, or if police were present, make sure to let Process Server Support know by submitting a request.
