How Is the Casper Test Scored and Evaluated?

Understanding How the Casper Exam is Scored

Updated today

Each applicant’s Casper test is evaluated based on both typed and video responses. A single combined score is generated, which distributed to the programs to which the applicant has added to their distribution list. To receive a valid score, all response sections of the test must be completed.

Evaluation by Different Raters

Each section of your exam is reviewed by a different human rater. These raters are carefully selected to reflect a broad cross-section of the general population in the country where you plan to study. This diversity helps ensure fairness and impartiality in the evaluation process.

How Your Responses Are Handled

Your responses are anonymized before being evaluated. Raters do not see any personal information such as your name, age, or photo, only your typed or video responses are presented to them.

Scoring Methodology

Each rater is assigned a specific scenario and is given all necessary background knowledge and instructions relevant to the topic at hand. Raters are then presented with multiple responses from different applicants related to that single scenario. Importantly, no rater scores an applicant more than once, ensuring unbiased evaluation.

Raters are instructed to focus on the substance and quality of your response rather than technical issues like grammar or spelling. Their goal is to assess your thought process, judgment, and communication.

Score Calculation and Standardization

Once all responses are evaluated, the individual ratings are averaged. The resulting scores are standardized to represent the relative rankings of each applicant compared to the applicant pool.

Rater Training

All raters must complete a comprehensive training program and receive accreditation before they are allowed to score responses. This helps ensure consistent and high-quality evaluations.
