Applicants who completed the Casper test will automatically receive a quartile score. This score provides a general sense of how your performance compares to other test-takers in your cohort.
When and how you’ll receive your score
When and how you’ll receive your score
You will be notified by email when your quartile score is ready. This usually happens around 4 to 5 weeks after the date of your test.
Once your quartile score becomes available, you can access it easily by following these steps:
Log in to your Acuity Insights account.
Navigate to the section for your completed Casper test.
Select "View quartile score" link associated with your test to see your results.

What does it mean to be placed in a specific Casper quartile?
What does it mean to be placed in a specific Casper quartile?
Casper scores are grouped into four quartiles, which represent how your performance compares to other applicants on the same test type and are determined by how strong your response is relative to others who answered the same scenario. If you are placed in the first quartile, it means other applicants had stronger responses.
This does not mean you failed, it simply reflects that, compared to the rest of the test-takers, your responses were rated as less strong. Keep in mind that the Casper pool includes many high-caliber applicants.
Why some applicants score higher?
Applicants who are placed in a higher quartile may demonstrate certain competencies Casper is designed to measure. These may include:
Effort: they may have tried harder to respond to questions (for instance, they may have explained their position fully, or used the full amount of time before moving on to the next question, compared to applicants who place in the first quartile).
Empathy: they considered all perspectives in a meaningful way.
Impartiality: they showed strong respect for others’ experiences and needs.
Communication: they demonstrated above-average ability to effectively articulate their ideas.
Familiarity with the format: they familiarized themselves with the format of the test (video, typed response, etc.) and were able to successfully navigate these aspects of the test.
What your quartile placement means for you?
Regardless of which quartile you place in, it should not dissuade you from applying to any program. Most programs consider all quartiles and use Casper as one data point among many when reviewing applicants.
Why is my Casper quartile score different between tests?
Why is my Casper quartile score different between tests?
Because Casper has relatively high test-retest reliability, applicants can expect to score similarly if they are required to take more than one Casper test (e.g., to apply to programs requiring different test types, or to apply to programs in subsequent years). However, in some cases, applicants may notice a difference in their quartile from one test to the next.
Here are a few possible reasons why this might happen:
Scores Near the Edge of a Quartile Range: Your scores on the two tests were close to the edge of a quartile range (e.g., 74th and 76th percentiles) meaning a small change in score led to being placed in an entirely different quartile.
Differences in Applicant Pool: The caliber of the applicants in each test may vary. Since Casper is rated and z-scored relative to the strength of your peers’ responses, your performance may have been more competitive in one test as compared to another, leading to a different quartile placement.
Improvement in Skills or Familiarity: You were able to improve your skills between the first and second test, or better demonstrate your skills by being more familiar with the Casper test format (e.g., by taking the practice test in your Acuity Insights account or having been exposed to a real Casper test once before), leading to an improvement in test performance.
