Purpose: To perform a physical examination and comment on the applicant's overall health

Who can complete: Registered Nurse, or Doctor (depending on the medical, see below for more info.) Enrolled Nurses are not suitably qualified to complete the medical examination

Time to complete: 10 - 15 minutes

Equipment: Standard clinic check-up equipment, e.g. BP Cuff, stethoscope, otoscope

Generally, medical examinations cover 5 areas:

  • Cardiovascular assessment: peripheral pulses, heart sounds etc

  • Respiratory assessment: e.g. chest shape and expansion, forced cough, lung auscultation

  • Ear assessment: e.g. tympanic membranes, otitis externa

  • Skin assessment: e.g. scars, moles, lesions

  • Abdomen assessment: e.g. auscultation, hernias

Some industry-specific medicals require the worker to see a doctor for a medical examination. This is a legal requirement and will be communicated at the time of booking to ensure an appointment is made with the affiliate doctor.
