If you want your Alia popup to stop showing to users who have already signed up, you can easily configure this using targeting rules.

While this method significantly reduces the chances of existing subscribers seeing your popup again, it does not 100% guarantee it in all cases. Learn why here.

What this setup does

When configured, your popup will:

  • Display only for new visitors who have not previously signed up via your email or SMS forms, as much as is technically possible.

  • Skip showing for users identified via UTM parameters or cookies from your marketing platforms.

  • Reduce overlap for returning subscribers, helping you avoid duplicate signups and unneeded discount triggers.

How to set it up

1️⃣ Check your Targeting Rules setup

Go to the Campaign tab and check your Targeting Rules section to make sure:

✅ You see Returning Visitors and New Visitors targeting rules created.

✅ The Returning Visitors rule is configured with relevant UTM sources and UTM mediums for your marketing platforms:

  • If you only use Klaviyo, this will auto-populate.

  • If you use Yotpo, Attentive, Postscript, or other platforms, add their UTM sources and mediums here to improve detection.

✅ All other normal identification methods are included, as seen below:

2️⃣ Configure your campaign targeting

In the campaign targeting for the popup you want to hide from existing subscribers:

✅ Set the rule to:

This ensures your popup shows only to visitors not included in your Returning Visitors rule.

3️⃣ Optional: Redirect returning subscribers on form submission

If you are concerned about any remaining existing subscribers seeing and re-submitting the popup to receive another discount, you can add a redirect:

  1. In the popup editor, click on your email or SMS form step.

  2. Locate “Branch if user is already…” in the right sidebar under When form is submitted.

  3. Configure your desired action (e.g., redirect to an account page or display a custom message).

Important notes

⚠️ This method does not guarantee 100% exclusion of all existing subscribers due to cookie deletion, incognito browsing, or device switching. See this article for details.

That’s it!
Your popup will now prioritize new visitors while reducing unnecessary impressions and discounts for existing subscribers.
