Tailoring your popups to visitors from specific countries and markets can significantly boost engagement and conversion rates. Alia offers two powerful methods to achieve this: targeting by Shopify Markets and targeting by IP Location for granular, real-time geographic control.
1. Targeting by Shopify Markets
If your store uses Shopify's Markets feature to manage different country-specific storefronts or customer segments, Alia can seamlessly integrate with this setup. This method allows you to display popups only to visitors who belong to a specific Shopify Market, ensuring consistency with your existing e-commerce strategy.
How to Set Up Targeting by Shopify Markets:
Follow these steps to configure your popup campaigns to target specific Shopify Markets:
Go to your Campaigns page. This is where all your active and draft Alia popup campaigns are listed.
Click Edit Targeting on the specific campaign you wish to adjust. This will open the campaign's targeting settings.
Select “Add a Condition” from the targeting options. This allows you to add new rules for when your popup should appear.
Find the targeting dimension called “In-Markets / Not-In Markets.” This dimension is specifically designed to leverage your Shopify Market configurations.
Select the Shopify Market(s) you’d like to include. You will see a list of the markets you have defined in your Shopify store. Choose one or more that you want your popup to target.
Save your campaign. Once saved, your popup will only be displayed to visitors identified as part of the selected Shopify Market(s).
Note: This method works best if you already have defined Shopify Markets in your store and want to run campaigns that align directly with those established segments. It's ideal for maintaining a unified approach across your store and marketing efforts.
2. Targeting by IP Location
The IP Location targeting method allows you to display popups based on the visitor's detected geographic location, as determined by their device's IP address. This offers a highly flexible way to target any country or even specific cities, providing a deeper level of customization than Shopify Markets alone.
How to Set Up Targeting by IP Location:
To target popups based on a visitor's IP address, follow these instructions:
Go to your Campaigns page and select the campaign you wish to edit.
Click Edit Targeting to access the campaign's targeting configuration.
Select “Add a Condition” to introduce a new targeting rule.
Find the targeting dimension called “User Location.” This dimension allows you to specify geographic regions.
Click User Location and select countries/regions you would like to target. You can search for and select any country in the world from a comprehensive list. For example, you might select "United States" or "Germany."
(Optional) Specify city-level targeting. If you require even finer control, Alia's IP targeting also allows you to narrow down your audience to specific cities within the selected countries. This is a unique advantage over Shopify Markets, which do not currently support city-level segmentation.
Save your campaign. Your popup will now be displayed only to visitors whose IP address indicates they are located in your specified countries or cities.
💡 IP targeting also allows for state/regions, city-level targeting, which Shopify Markets does not currently support. This method is particularly useful if you want more granular geographic control beyond broader country lists, enabling hyper-localized campaigns.
Choosing Between the Two Methods
Both Shopify Markets and IP Location targeting offer robust ways to segment your audience geographically. The best method for you depends on your specific needs and existing store setup:
Use Shopify Markets if you want consistency with how your store is already segmented in Shopify. This method is perfect for campaigns that should align directly with your predefined international store versions.
Use IP Targeting if you need city-level granularity or want to reach a country that isn't included in your current Shopify Market setup. It provides greater flexibility and immediate access to a global audience based purely on their physical location.
With these two powerful options, you can decide the level of precision you want and run country-specific campaigns that feel localized, relevant, and effectively engage your global audience. This ensures your popups resonate more deeply with visitors, no matter where they are browsing from.
