In this support article, we'll explore the differences between category folders, product folders, and files within PXM, providing users with a comprehensive understanding of these organizational elements and how they function within the platform.
Category Folders:
Category Folders serve as hierarchical folders or organizational structures within PXM, facilitating the management of data and assets. Within category folders, users can create a structure by nesting folders within one another, allowing for efficient data organization.
Primarily used for navigational purposes.
Can have only one parent Category Folder (due to inheritance abilities).
Can contain multiple category folders or product folders as direct children.
Can force child product folders to inherit permissions.
Can have its own assets added directly to that category folder.
Product Folders:
Product folders, distinguished by their icon resembling a paper, can serve as specific products, marketing campaigns, or other projects. Product folders may include images, videos, documents, PDFs, and other relevant assets, as well as all of the product’s information, or PIM data.
Can live in multiple parent Category Folders.
Cannot have child folders.
Can have relationship ties such as parent or variants.
Can have its own content and/or inherit content from a parent Category.
Media within a product is automatically assigned to tabs according to media type.
Files:
Files in PXM refer to individual assets such as images, videos, documents, and miscellaneous files. Files can be added to products or directly into category folders. In PXM you can also tag the image to multiple folders or products so that it shows up in all locations you want it to be in.
