To help enhance the privacy and security of homeowners on Angi, we are introducing temporary phone numbers. When you receive a lead, the homeowner’s actual phone number will be replaced with a temporary phone number - you’ll use this to seamlessly connect with the potential customer.

This enhanced privacy allows homeowners to connect with a pro before providing their personal details, putting them in control of their contact information and building trust on your behalf. When you call, homeowners will see your real phone number, so they can easily call you back directly. With this improved process to connect, we expect you to see an increase in the volume of high intent homeowners. When you text, homeowners will see a temporary phone number that is assigned to you. It’s important to share your personal contact information with a homeowner when reaching out via text, including business name and contact information.

Note: In order to contact homeowners via call or text, you’ll first need to connect at least one preferred business number in the Angi for Pros site or Angi Ads Pro app.

Enabling SMS in the Angi Ads Pro app:

  1. Click on the Leads tab at the bottom of the app.

  2. Select a new lead from your lead board that has a temporary phone number assigned.

  3. Under Contact, select Show phone number.

  4. You’ll be prompted to enter your name and a preferred phone number from which texts and calls to homeowners will be sent.

  5. If you need to edit or add additional phone numbers for calling and texting homeowners, you can go to the My Business tab and select Connected Numbers:

Enabling SMS on the Angi for Pros site:

  1. Log into office.angi.com.

  2. Click on Leads at the top of the page.

  3. Select a new lead from your lead board that has a temporary phone number assigned.

  4. Within the selected lead, click on Contact and then Show phone number.

  5. You’ll be prompted to enter your name and a preferred phone number from which texts and calls to homeowners will be sent.

  6. If you need to edit or add additional phone numbers for calling and texting homeowners, you can go to the My Business tab at the top of the page and select Connected Numbers.

Tips to connect:

1. Brand your caller ID so homeowners know you’re calling.

When using a cell phone, you can go directly to your mobile carrier and set your caller ID to your preferred name - ideally, this is the same company name you have listed on Angi.

2. Ensure your number is registered with analytic providers.

If you're unable to connect with a homeowner's temporary number, it's possible that your mobile carrier is blocking the call from being connected. This can happen for various reasons, but registering your number will provide a proof point for your mobile carrier and will help ensure a seamless connection.

3. Include relevant information when connecting via text message.

When you reach out over text, introduce your company and let the homeowner know you received their lead from Angi.Share your contact information as well so that homeowners know how to reach you.

4. Contact the homeowner via the method they prefer.

Once connected, simply confirm the best way to stay in touch, and ask the homeowner to share their preferred phone number so that you can contact them in the future.

What’s the most convenient number for us to reach you in the future?”

5. Respond quickly.

The majority of closed leads are won by the first pro to contact the homeowner.

Frequently asked questions:

  1. How long do the temporary numbers last?

    • The temporary number will expire 30 days after you receive the lead - this creates a more up-to-date experience, while respecting homeowner privacy.

    • Pros can share their phone numbers to stay in touch after the 30 day period.

  2. Can I send a text message to the temporary phone number?

    • Yes. When you text a consumer, they will receive that message from a temporary phone number that is assigned to you.

    • It’s important to introduce your company and ask the homeowner for their preferred contact information when connecting via text.

    • If you aren't seeing these details, you will need to update to the latest version of the Angi Ads Pro app.

  4. Will my leads that currently display a homeowner’s real phone number be updated to a temporary number?

    • No, this change only impacts new leads. Your old leads will continue to display the homeowner’s actual phone number.

  5. If I receive more than one lead from the same homeowner, will the same temporary number be used for each lead?

    • Each lead you receive will have a different temporary number.

  6. Will Angi block homeowners or pros from sharing their real phone numbers to connect outside the Angi platform?

  7. If I have issues connecting with the homeowner’s temporary number, can Angi provide me with the homeowner’s real phone number?

    • If you’re not able to connect over the phone, try sending the homeowner a message through the site or app.

  8. What if I don’t see the ‘Connected Numbers’ page in the app?

  • If you aren’t seeing this page, you will need to update to the latest version of the Angi Ads Pro app.
