Primary Role: Workflow Manager
Learning Focus: Apply
Where: ANVL Mobile App, ANVL Workflows, ANVL Manager

🧭 Before You Start

  • The workflow must be published to a Demonstration / UAT site

  • Testing should always happen in UAT, never directly in Production

⚠️ Critical Step (Do Not Skip)
If you were already signed in before the workflow was published:

  • Sign out of the ANVL Mobile App or ANVL Workflows

  • Sign back in

This is required to see workflows published within the last 24 hours.
You do not need to sign out of ANVL Manager (insights.anvl.com).

→See Workflow Testing Test Case Template
Use this template to plan test cases and document results while testing workflows in Demonstration (UAT).

🎯 Why This Matters

Testing ensures workflows behave as designed—before real users rely on them. Even small changes can affect flow, clarity, or escalation behavior.

🛠️ Step 1: Access the Workflow in UAT

  1. Sign in to:

    • ANVL Mobile App, or

    • ANVL Workflows (workflows.anvl.com)

Tip: Quickly open ANVL Workflows from the upper right-hand menu in ANVL Manager

  2. Access your Demonstration / UAT site

    1. Work Folder experience: Open the Demonstration folder

Note: If you don't have a testing folder, click + Add to create one. Ensure the Group selected is a "Demonstration" or UAT/Testing site.

    2. Workflow-first experience: Select the Demonstration site from Groups

  3. Click Start Workflow

  4. Select the correct Workflow Category

  5. Open the workflow you are testing

🛠️ Step 2: Complete the Workflow (Field Testing)

Complete the workflow end-to-end and check:

  • Flow:

    • Questions appear in the expected order

    • Routing follows the intended path

  • Questions:

    • Wording is clear

    • Spelling is correct

    • Response options make sense

  • Logic:

    • Rule-based paths trigger correctly

  • Stops & Interventions:

    • Stop or Intervention screens appear when expected

Repeat as needed to test different paths.

🛠️ Step 3: Validate the Completed Workflow (Mobile App / ANVL Workflows)

After submitting the workflow:

  1. Stay in the ANVL Mobile App or ANVL Workflows

  2. Confirm the workflow status shows Completed

    • Look for the blue circle indicating completion

  3. Open the completed workflow

Review the Completed Workflow

Verify the following:

☐ All responses are visible
☐ Responses are grouped under the correct categories
☐ Categories appear in a logical order
☐ Answers reflect what was entered during completion

📝 Test the Notes Experience

  1. Click Add Note (top-right corner)

  2. Complete the Notes questions when prompted

  3. Save the note

Confirm:

  • Notes questions appear as designed

  • The note is added to the workflow

  • The note appears under the correct category

This ensures the post-completion experience works correctly for users.

🛠️ Step 4: Validate Stops & Interventions (ANVL Manager)

To confirm escalations are recorded correctly:

  1. Open ANVL Manager (insights.anvl.com)

  2. Navigate to the Live Feed

  3. Locate the workflow submission you just completed

  4. Open the workflow from the Live Feed

  5. Review:

    • Interventions triggered

    • Stops triggered

  6. Confirm they match the workflow design and intent

This step verifies that what users see in the field is reflected correctly for managers and reviewers.

Testing Best Practices

  • Test more than one path (normal flow + edge cases)

  • Test at least one Stop or Intervention scenario

  • Fix issues in the workflow before publishing again

  • Re-test after making changes

👉 If your workflow uses Custom Scoring, include scoring checks as part of testing:
→See Validate & Troubleshoot Custom Workflow Scoring

🚦 What to Do Next

  • If issues are found:

    • Update the workflow

    • Re-publish to Demonstration / UAT

    • Test again

  • If testing passes:

    • Publish the workflow to Production sites

🔑 Key Takeaways

  • Always test workflows in Demonstration / UAT

  • Sign out and back in to see recent updates

  • Test flow, questions, logic, Stops, and Interventions

  • Verify escalations in ANVL Manager

  • Never skip testing before production release
