How do I add a Weather question to a workflow?

Add live weather checks to any workflow

Written by Jake Landgraf

The Weather question type shows workers the current weather conditions, a 12-hour forecast, and any active weather alerts for their location. ANVL finds them using the device’s GPS. The worker can add a comment on the conditions and chooses a response button, such as Safe or Not Safe. You configure each button to lead to the next steps, so dangerous conditions can route workers to additional controls, a supervisor approval, or a stop before work begins. Field teams get weather hazard information at the point of work without having to search for it.

NOTE: This feature is only available on version 2.281+ of the ANVL mobile app.

Steps:

Before you Begin: Confirm you have access to MobilizeAI in the Manager Dashboard and that you know which workflow and category the question belongs in. Decide which response buttons workers should see and what should happen after each one. Workers must allow location access for the ANVL Mobile App, because the Weather question will not work without it.

Add the question in the Workflow Editor

  1. Log in to the Manager Dashboard at insights.anvl.com and click MobilizeAI.

  2. Open the workflow you want to edit, or create a new draft.

  3. In the Question tab, select the Category the question should appear in (for example, Introduction).

  4. In Type, select Weather.

  5. Add the response buttons workers will choose from, such as Safe and Not Safe.

  6. Save and Publish the workflow.

What workers see in the Mobile App

  1. When a worker reaches the question, ANVL uses their device location to load the current conditions and shows Weather for their location.

  2. Any active weather alerts appear at the top of the screen. Warnings (such as Extreme Heat or Severe Thunderstorm) show in red, and Advisories (such as Wind or Fog) show in yellow. Each alert shows when it ends and a short description of the hazard.

  3. The worker reviews the temperature, feels-like temperature, humidity, wind, precipitation, visibility, UV index, and the next 12 hours of forecast.

  4. The worker enters any comments about the conditions in the text box.

  5. The worker selects a response button, and the workflow continues to the next step configured for that button.

  6. On the workflow summary screen, the weather conditions appear with the full hour-by-hour forecast, who answered, the date and time, and the GPS coordinates where the conditions were captured.
