📘 Understanding Where to Store, Send, and Randomize Resources

This article helps you understand what each feature is for—so you know where to store resources, how the GM can send them, when to send them, and when to use randomness.

1) Clues / Props / Media

Your resource library (storage & organization)

Think of this as a folder-style library for everything you upload.

In this section, you can:

  • Upload and store Clues, Props, and Media (e.g., background music, large images)

On the GM side, the GM will see the same library and can:

  • View uploaded resources

  • Manually distribute or retrieve one or multiple items at any time

🧭 Best for:
Organizing resources, and situations where the GM needs to act manually during gameplay.

2) GM Distribution

One-click distribution during the game

This feature is designed to make live gameplay smoother.

Once you (the author) set it up:

  • The GM can use one-click distribution to send what you pre-configured

  • Resources sent can include Script, Clues, Props, and Media

  • Distribution can be sent to:

    • All players, or

    • Specific characters only

🧭 Best for:
Moments where you want something to be sent at a specific time, to specific recipients, in a non-random way.

3) Decks

A card/deck system for randomized or hidden draws

Decks work like a card deck mechanic.

As the author, you:

  • Create decks

  • Decide what cards (clues / props / mechanics) go into each deck

During gameplay, the GM can:

  • Ask players to draw cards from a deck

🧭 Best for:
Randomization, hidden selection, or mechanics like character attributes (e.g., an “Alcohol Tolerance” deck).

⚠️ Important:
If a clue is not meant to be random, it’s often clearer to store it in Clues / Props / Media or distribute it via GM Distribution, rather than using a Deck.

4) GM Manual

Tells the GM when to do what

These tools help the GM execute gameplay—but timing still needs to be written by the author.

Recommended approach:

  • Use the GM Manual to clearly explain when the GM should use:

    • One-click distribution (GM Distribution)

    • Manual distribution / retrieval (from Clues / Props / Media)

    • Deck draws (Decks)

🧭 Best for:
Making the gameplay flow clear so the GM doesn’t have to guess.

Quick guide: Which one should I use?

I want to store and organize resources→ Clues / Props / Media

I want the GM to send specific items to specific recipients at a known moment→ GM Distribution (and note the timing in the GM Manual)

I need random draws / hidden selection→ Decks (and note when to use them in the GM Manual)

I want to make sure the GM knows the flow→ GM Manual (write clear “when to distribute / when to draw” instructions)

Common pitfalls

Putting all clues into Decks:
If the clue isn’t random, this can confuse the flow and add unnecessary steps.

Setting up GM Distribution but not writing timing in the GM Manual:
The GM can send items quickly, but may not know when they’re supposed to do it.
