What is a Power Score?
Power Scores are a core feature of Applause Scorecards, designed to make performance visible, measurable, and actionable. A Power Score is a customizable, weighted score that combines multiple key metrics into a single, easy-to-understand performance rating for technicians. It helps align daily actions with broader business goals like efficiency, safety, or customer satisfaction.
Why set up a Power Score?
As a business owner or manager, you may track over a dozen metrics. However, expecting employees to do the same can lead to confusion or disengagement. Power Scores simplify performance management by combining key metrics into a single, clear, weighted score. This helps employees understand what matters most, stay focused, and take ownership of their success. Instead of chasing scattered numbers, your team sees exactly how to meet expectations and earn rewards, driving alignment, clarity, and performance all at once.
What is the technician experience with Power Scores?
Technicians gain real-time insight into how they’re performing across multiple metrics, all within the Applause app they already use.
See a single performance score based on clear metrics.
Identify strong areas and those that require improvement.
Know exactly what’s expected and how performance is being measured.
Feel motivated by progress and transparency.
Below are three images that the technician will see.
Image 1: This is the homescreen of the Applause app. Technicians can see “Focus Metrics” that allow them to see highlighted KPIs selected by admins. This keeps metrics in focus for technicians without having to navigate anywhere else in the app.
Image 2: This is the main page of the Scorecards module. At the top, technicians can see how they perform month over month, allowing them to historically track their performance. They can also see all KPIs being measured, which metrics have bonuses attached, their progress to attainment, and how many days are left to achieve their goals.
Image 3: After clicking into any Power Score listed on the main Scorecard screen, a more detailed screen appears to give technicians details into a Power Score. They are able to see the description, sub-metrics, weighting, bonus, and their progress toward meeting their goal.
Power Scores help technicians focus on what matters most by clearly showing how their performance is measured, aligning company priorities with personal goals, and increasing transparency around expectations.
Can Power Scores be tailored to a specific business need?
Yes, Power Scores can be tailored to meet your business needs. Start by selecting a high-level categorization/business goal for your Power Score, like safety, efficiency, or customer satisfaction. From there, you can narrow down to specific metrics that align with that category.
For example, if the goal is to improve and incentivize overall efficiency, you might choose the following metrics:
Average time on site
Route completion
Jobs completed
Production value
Reservice rate
Attendance
An example of what this looks like in the admin portal is shown below.
Aligning metrics to a larger goal helps teams better understand the why behind each score.
What customizations can I make?
Applause offers customizations within Scorecards to ensure value for your business.
Customizations include:
Power Score name & description
Technician Visibility: Choose whether scores are shown in the mobile app
Metrics: A minimum of two metrics is required to create a Power Score
Expecation on individual metric: A value that equals full performance (100%) for any metric selected.
Example: An expectation set for 80+ on an NPS metric would equal full attainment (100%).
Weight: Ability to set how much each metric contributes to the overall Power Score. A higher weight means that the metric has more influence on the final score.
Expectation on Power Score: Set a value for full attainment of the total score, allowing flexibility across metrics.
Auto-bonus: Ability to toggle if a bonus is paid out on Power Score attainment.
Bonus amount
Months Active: Use a Power Score during specific periods (e.g., peak season)
Can I have more than one Power Score?
Yes. You can create multiple Power Scores to align with different initiatives, departments, seasons, or roles. For example:
Summer Performance Score
Customer Care Excellence Score
Safety First Score
Each score can be uniquely configured to meet its specific goal. Below are examples of different Power Scores that can be set up.
This example has three Power Scores set up, all to reflect larger business goals.
The Service Star score focuses on customer satisfaction KPIs, including reviews, NPS, Google rating, and more.
The Efficiency Impact score focuses on maximizing value with minimal waste. It combines performance (production value), efficiency (driving & routing), and quality (low reservice rate).
The Summer Madness! score provides an extra incentive for technicians to show up, finish their routes, and do their best despite the heat and longer hours. It includes KPIs like attendance, route compilation, and Google rating.
These images show more detail on the Summer Madness! score and the Efficiency Impact score. Specifically how the metric, expectation, and weight are the underlying KPIs that account for the total score.
