Traffic Allocation: Turning on UpCart for Only Some Customers

Choose What Percentage of Customers will See UpCart

Updated over 7 months ago

There may be situations where you only want to show UpCart to some customers and have it disabled for the rest. By using UpCart Traffic Allocation, you can do this.

Behavior

When UpCart is configured not to show itself to every customer, the version of the store that each customer experiences will remain consistent across page refreshes and store visits (i.e. if the cart shows for a specific customer they will always see it, and vice versa).

To determine if a customer will see the cart, UpCart generates a random value the first time they visit your store and saves it in the customer's browser. To reset this value, the customer needs to clear their cookies for the store.

Behaviour in Preview Mode

When previewing UpCart, there are two links. By choosing the active preview, you will see your storefront from the perspective of a customer who is able to see UpCart, and by opening the inactive preview you will see the storefront with UpCart disabled.

Adjusting the Percent of Customers Seeing UpCart

To change how many customers see UpCart, you can go to settings and adjust the Traffic Allocation Percentage.

Click settings, then slide "Traffic allocation percent" to the desired value

Example Values

  • 100 (Default) - All customers will see UpCart.

  • 50 - Half of customers will see UpCart.

  • 0 - No customers will see UpCart.
