🎉 Congratulations!

Your Highway integration is now live inside AscendTMS — and you’re ready to put it to work!

With Highway fully connected, you’ve unlocked the most powerful tools in the industry for carrier verification, onboarding, and real-time monitoring — all within AscendTMS.

Now that setup is complete, this guide will walk you through how to use your integration — including how to pre-assess carriers, onboard new partners, and monitor your network with ease and confidence.

Pre-Assessing and Monitoring Carriers from Highway

Begin by navigating to your Carriers tab, then View Carriers tab on the left side of your AscendTMS screen.

Click on the Pre-Assess/Import Carrier from Highway button.

A modal window will appear where you can enter the carrier’s MC# or DOT# to pre-assess the carrier.

After entering the number, click “Pre-Assess Carrier” to begin the verification process.

This will open a new modal displaying the carrier’s details and the results of their Highway pre-assessment.

Here, you’ll see whether the carrier passes or fails based on the rules and criteria set in your Highway account — such as safety scores, operating authority, compliance status, etc.

If the carrier is not already in your AscendTMS Carrier List, you’ll also have the option to import them directly from this screen with a single click.

💡 Pro Tip: Pre-assessing carriers before onboarding helps you identify risks early and avoid working with unverified or non-compliant carriers.

Additionally, you can pre-assess existing carriers directly from the Carrier Verification section within their carrier profile in AscendTMS.

This option is helpful if the carrier has already been created in your system and you’d like to verify their status through Highway.

💡 Pro Tip: Running a pre-assessment on existing carriers ensures their information and compliance status stay current — giving you added confidence before assigning them new loads.

If you have a carrier that’s not currently monitored by Highway, you can invite them to register directly from their carrier profile in AscendTMS.

From within the carrier profile, scroll down to the Carrier Verification area and open the Highway tab.

Here, you’ll find the option to invite the carrier to register with Highway.

Once invited, the carrier’s status will display as Pending until they’ve completed the onboarding process.

Other possible statuses you may see include):

  • Needs to Onboard

  • Needs to Onboard but Can Remain Active

  • Onboarded

  • Do Not Dispatch

See the chart below for more details on these statuses.

💡 Pro Tip: Inviting carriers to register with Highway keeps your network compliant and up to date — ensuring every carrier you work with is verified, monitored, and ready to move freight safely.

🚦 Highway Carrier Status Key

Status

Meaning

🟡 Pending

The carrier has been invited but hasn’t completed onboarding yet.

🟠 Needs to Onboard

The carrier must complete the Highway onboarding process before being approved.

🟢 Needs to Onboard but Can Remain Active

The carrier can continue operating temporarily while completing onboarding.

✅ Onboarded

The carrier has successfully completed onboarding and is fully verified.

🔴 Do Not Dispatch

The carrier has failed verification or been marked as unsafe — do not assign loads.

Once your carrier is fully onboarded, you can begin monitoring them through Highway.

Simply click Start Monitoring, and a confirmation modal will appear asking you to confirm that you’d like to enable monitoring for this carrier.

Once carrier is being monitored, the button will now change to red. You may cancel monitoring at anytime.

You can also update carrier data from Highway directly from this screen.
For example, if you’re missing a current Certificate of Insurance (COI), simply click “Update” to pull the latest documents from Highway.

All updated files will automatically be stored in the carrier’s profile under View Attached Documents, or you can click “View Carrier Documents” to open them directly.

Additional items monitored through Highway can be found in the Additional Carrier Info section within the carrier profile.

Here, you’ll see details such as the carrier’s insurance coverage, equipment types, lanes, and certifications, all automatically pulled from their Highway profile.

To make carrier monitoring even easier, AscendTMS now includes a Highway status column on the Carrier List page.

You can add this column to quickly see which carriers are being monitored through Highway and view their current monitoring status at a glance.

💡 Pro Tip: Adding the Highway status column gives you instant visibility into your carrier network’s compliance — no need to open each carrier profile individually.

Lastly, you can add the Highway column to your Carrier List by clicking “Customize Columns” in the top-right corner.

From there, make sure there’s a green check mark next to “Connected via Highway,” then click Save to apply your changes.

You’ve successfully unlocked the power of Highway + AscendTMS!

From pre-assessment to real-time monitoring, every step of your carrier management process is now faster, smarter, and more secure. Stay proactive, protect your business, and keep your network running strong! 💪
