While Atlas is all about encouraging open communication and transparency into work in progress, we know that there will always be bodies of work that must be kept under wraps. That's why Atlas supports private projects. Here's how they work.

⚠️ Note

  1. Only a project's Owner, Contributors, or specified Viewers can grant additional people in your workspace can view or can edit access

  2. People with can edit access are automatically added as Contributors

Creating a private project

When you create a new project in Atlas, you'll see an option to make the project private.

⚠️ Note

  1. Once a private project has been created it can't be made public to people in your Atlas workspace

  2. Existing projects in Atlas can't be made private

Identifying a private project

Private projects have a πŸ”’ padlock icon on both their avatar and Share button. The padlock icon appears wherever the project avatar is shown to users with access to the project. By default, the creator is added as both the Owner and as a Contributor.

Adding contributors to a private project

When adding contributors to a private project a message is shown as a reminder that adding people and teams here will grant both view and edit access to the project.

Granting additional stakeholders access to a private project

At any time a project's Owner and its Contributors can grant other people and teams in your Atlas workspace can view or can edit access via the Share dialog.

You can change or remove another person's access at any time based on your own access rights.

Adding followers to a private project

When granting an individual person or members of a team can view access you'll also have the option to add them as a Follower.

πŸ’‘ Learn more about following projects

Email notifications are sent to people granted can view or can edit access.

Posting private project updates to Slack

If you connect a private project to a Slack channel, its updates will be automatically posted to the channel and viewable by everyone who is a Slack channel member. Be sure to check who has access to a Slack channel before connecting.
