Send a survey to your own audience

Learn how to send a survey to your own audience

Updated over a month ago

Drafting your survey

To send your survey to your own audience, go to the Audience page and add a new audience by selecting “Send to your “Own Audience”.

You can add multiple Audiences to your study to segment your own customers, as well as send your survey in multiple languages to multiple countries.

You can now enhance the insights you can gain about your own customers in Attest by enriching the data about your customer and uploading your customer list! See here for more information.

You can also create a hybrid survey by adding an “own audience” and “attest panel” audience to your survey. See here for more about Hybrid Audience Research.

Respondent IDs

What is the Respondent ID?

When sending out surveys to your own audience, you can add a unique ID to the survey URL. This allows you to identify and keep track of who is responding to your own audience surveys.

If you choose to, you can also upload demographic data to the Attest platform via CSV or JSON to enrich your own audience survey data.

Once this own audience data is uploaded, you will be able to analyse responses within the platform, and gain deeper insights by comparing specific respondents’ answers against their demographic information - we call this functionality "Respondent ID".

The Respondent ID is the link between the survey responses and the demographic data that you upload. If the Respondent ID is missing from the survey URL, you will not be able to match responses to the demographic information.

Each audience will generate a link to share with your respondents, however the link will only be “live” when you purchase your survey.

The generated link will be a URL and you can affix ?respondent_id and a unique ID number to the end of this URL e.g. ?respondent_id=123abc.

If you want to find your link again once your survey is live, go back to the Manage page, and select the relevant audience, where you will be able to copy it.

Assigning a unique Respondent ID to your own audience respondents

To identify own audience respondents and match their demographic data to that respondent, you'll need to assign a unique Respondent ID to each respondent.

For security and data protection purposes, this Respondent ID must be pseudonymised to ensure it doesn't include any information that could be easily linked to individuals (for example names, email addresses, etc.). For more information on this, please see paragraph 4 of our Acceptable Use Policy.

Each respondent must receive their own personalised survey link containing their specific Respondent ID.

Maximum responses

You can also set the maximum number of respondents you would like to target with each audience, after which you will get notified and the survey will automatically close.

These surveys remain open for a year, or until you decide to close them or if the survey reaches the maximum number of respondents. You can always increase your sample in the manage page.

Responses per device

In the Review page, you can set up your survey to limit responses to one device or enable multiple per device.

Limiting to one device can be useful in ensuring all your respondents are unique.

Enabling multiple responses per device can be useful if you are collecting responses at an event or conference.

Your Respondents

When a respondent enters your survey, they will be presented with a privacy notice (which includes a link to your privacy policy) and asked to confirm that they are happy to proceed before they enter the survey.

The privacy notice informs respondents that they can be identified by the ID number so their survey responses won’t be anonymous, and can be attributed to them. Respondents will not be able to participate in the survey unless they click that they agree to participate.

Branding

You can also add a logo to your Own Audience surveys. When drafting your survey add your company logo, so that it appears at the top of every question of your survey.

Purchasing Own Audience surveys

Credits for your survey are deducted from the default pot only when responses are received from respondents. You can always check credits spent on own audience surveys by navigating to Credits > Transactions in your dashboard.

Your Results

You can create segments, cross-tabs and charts using any of the custom demographics in your uploaded data.

You can also identify your responses by exporting the survey data into an excel document. This will allow you to view the survey responses and ID number together - you can then do any additional analysis of this data in a tool of your choice. Use this data export to identify who responded and is eligible for an incentive if you chose to offer one.
