How can I add the sender name or control whether the text message is incoming or outgoing?

On the left side of the text bubble, you'll find options to control whether the message is incoming or outgoing, and you can also add the sender’s name, if needed, by clicking the center icon. The sender’s name will be associated with the text bubble that immediately follows.
