Which file do I need to export for eBooks and print versions?

Updated over 4 months ago

The choice between ePub and PDF format depends on your intended use:

  1. For eBooks: We recommend using the ePub file format. This format is compatible with most eReader devices and apps and is the preferred format for most eBook retailers, including Amazon. By using ePub, you can maintain the formatting and styling you've created in Atticus while offering readers an optimal digital reading experience.

  2. For print versions: We recommend using the PDF file format. PDFs are the preferred file type for printers and distributors when producing paperback and hardcover versions. Using the PDF format ensures your print version retains the formatting, layout, and design as intended.

  3. Regarding .docx exports: Keep in mind that Word does not support the complex formatting and design coding used in Atticus. Exporting to .docx will retain basic formatting and content but will not provide a fully formatted version. It can serve as a convenient editing tool and a backup version of your manuscript. However, for a fully formatted version, we recommend exporting to either ePub or PDF format.
