While Atticus is highly optimized for writing novels rather than low-content books or journals, you can absolutely still add lines using a couple of simple workarounds.
Here are the two best ways to do it:
Option 1: The Underscore Method
You can manually type underscores (_) to create your lines, but you will need to map out your formatting carefully.
Count your characters: You must use the same number of underscores on every line for a consistent look.
Match your trim size: The number of underscores changes depending on your book size. For example, a 5x8 book typically requires 62 underscores with 0.375 Left/Right margins to look clean.
Use the Previewer: Keep the book previewer open to double-check your work as you go.
Note: Because the previewer has to constantly re-render your layout, this method will temporarily slow down performance in Atticus.
Option 2: The Canva Image Method (Recommended)
If your book requires a lot of lines, this is usually the fastest and cleanest approach.
Create your lines or lined page layouts in a design program like Canva.
Export the designs as high-quality images.
Upload the images directly into your Atticus chapter.
Quick Tip: If you only need a few lines here and there, the “Underscore Method” works perfectly. If you are creating a full journal or planner, use the “Canva Method” to save time and keep Atticus running fast!
