AutoPylot is a powerful tool that streamlines the process of creating LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) missions for drone operations. LAANC allows drone pilots to request and receive near real-time airspace authorizations in controlled airspace, enabling safe and legal flights.

Follow these steps to create a LAANC mission using AutoPylot:

Search Location

  • First, navigate to the airspace map and search for your desired flight location.

  • You can enter specific addresses or manually zoom and pan the map to find the location and then drop in by tapping the screen.

Check LAANC Status and Requirements

  • Before proceeding, ensure that the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) is active in the area where you intend to fly.

  • If LAANC is active, the airspace will be orange, with grids showing ceiling heights.

  • The flight status indicator will also say "Fly With Approval," underneath, you will see "Get Automatic LAANC Authorization to Fly.

  • Finally, if LAANC is available, the flight checklist will have an advisory that reads "LAANC Auto Approval Active"

Choose Radius/ Time/ Date/ Duration

  • Once you've selected your flight location, choose the radius you intend to operate your drone.

  • Then, adjust the planned flight time, date, and duration.

  • Remember that when you make your flight radius larger or adjust the flight time and date, LAANC may become inactive if the boundary overlaps nearby restricted airspace or if the date overlaps a TFR.

  • LAANC can be requested up to 90 days in advance.

Review Checklist

  • Once you have set your flight boundary and adjusted it to the flight time, date, and duration, review the flight checklist to ensure LAANC is still available.

  • Then, pull the advisory menu up to review all the advisories impacting your mission.

  • Tap Continue on the bottom right to continue getting LAANC

Select Altitude

  • You can adjust the slider to the altitude at which you plan to fly your drone during the mission.

  • You will see the maximum allowed altitude for your location listed in the bottom right-hand corner.

  • Select Continue once set

NOTE: If your boundary overlaps two different ceiling grids (100ft and 200ft), you can only get LAANC up to the lowest ceiling grid (100 ft). You must create two separate missions to utilize the additional ceiling height in a bordering LAANC grid.

Review Mission Details

  • Double-check all the details of your mission, including location, radius, altitude, and any other relevant information.

  • Ensure accuracy to avoid delays or complications during the authorization process.

  • Select back if any details are incorrect. Once you are satisfied with the mission details, tap Submit to submit your LAANC request.

Submit and Receive Approval

  • AutoPylot will then automatically submit your LAANC Request

  • This may take a few moments, so please wait as the authorization processes

  • Once complete, you will receive a "Mission Authorized" message in the app and can now continue to the mission details page by selecting Continue

By following these steps, you can efficiently create a LAANC mission using AutoPylot, ensuring compliance with airspace regulations and facilitating safe drone operations.
