What does drone insurance cover?

Drone insurance is a comprehensive coverage designed to safeguard drone operators. It typically includes liability protection, shielding pilots from potential legal and financial consequences in case of accidents involving third parties. Additionally, operators can add hull insurance that covers physical damage to the drone itself, including repair or replacement costs resulting from accidents, crashes, or other perils.

How do I purchase drone insurance?

Does AutoPylot offer drone insurance in every state?

AutoPylot does not offer drone insurance in every state. We currently serve 48 states and are working to add new states every week. Users can find a map of our available coverage here.

If I purchase drone insurance, does it only cover flights in my state, or does it work nationwide?

While we can only sell insurance policies to residents of 48 states, the policy insures flights in all 50 states. In other words, if you bought a policy in Colorado and are traveling to California, your flights would be covered in California even though we don't sell insurance there.

If I am traveling, do I purchase a policy for the state I live in or where I am traveling to?

You should buy the policy in the state you live in or have a residence in (if you have more than one). The policy will cover flights in all 50 states.

Will my policy cover flights outside of the U.S.A.?

Yes! As long as your drone is registered, you hold a TRUST certification and/or Part-107, and you fly within all the rules and regulations of the foreign territory, then you will still be covered!

How do I request a certificate of insurance (COI)?

After purchasing a policy, a certificate of insurance will be instantly e-mailed from Brokey (check the email attachments). In addition, you can also access your COI in-app by navigating to your policy and scrolling down to documents.

How do I renew my policy?

When purchasing a policy, you can enable auto-renew on the checkout page (at the bottom). If you have already purchased a policy, you can still enable auto-renew within the app. Navigate to drone insurance from the apps menu, select the policy, and find the button labeled to enable auto-renew.

I purchased a policy and need to make a change; what should I do?

If you purchased a policy and need to adjust it, such as adding an additional insured, adding/changing coverage, or canceling it, please contact our insurance team at Hello@brokery.io.

Does hull insurance cover the controller, or must I add it to equipment?

Hull insurance is divided into two sections: physical damage (hull) insurance for the drone and physical damage(hull) insurance for equipment. Hull insurance for the drone would only cover the cost of replacing the drone itself and would not include the controller. Therefore, to protect the controller, you would need to add physical damage (hull) insurance for equipment.

You can find more information about this here.

How many licensed pilots are covered if I add my business as an additional insured?

Drone liability is not based on the number of pilots but on the number of drones. As long as the pilots are part of the business, are licensed, and comply with terms and conditions, they can be any pilot.
