HPPD Calculations

Understanding what is calculated in your HPPD

Updated over a week ago

Hour Per Patient Day

To reach your HPPD, you would take the total hours worked and divide that number by your current Census.

Direct Care HPPD:

Your direct-care HPPD is including the following employees hours worked;

  1. Unit Manager

  2. RN - Floor Nurse

  3. LPN - Floor Nurse

  4. CMA / CMT

  5. CNA / GNA

Your direct-care HPPD, excludes any hours worked by clinicians on orientation.

Overall HPPD:

Your Overall HPPD calculates your Direct-Care hours, plus all your nursing administration staff and orientee's - Starting with your nursing supervisors.

Be sure to add profiles and schedules for all your nursing admin employees;

Some examples are your; DON, ADON, IP Nurse, Wound Care Nurse, MDS Nurse, etc.

Suggested HPPD:

Your suggested HPPD is taking into account your facilities individuality.

  • Facility Layout

  • Facility acuity levels

  • Facility census by unit

  • As well as any other factors that may play a role in your staffing ratio needs

Taking these factors into consideration, the suggested HPPD is showing you where a facility matching your individual needs would and should be under normal circumstances.

Be sure to account for any additional factors that the software cannot, like resident specific needs to always maintain safe staffing ratios.

Important to Note:

The HPPD numbers shown on AutumnTrack are designed to be a accurate representation of your staffing ratios and patterns to help you on the ground each day while creating your schedule.

  1. These HPPD calculations, are NOT a true representation of your exact worked hours

  2. The breakdowns by position are STRICLY for operational purposes

    A. State and federal regulations have their own way of calculating which positions are included in your ratios and HPPD, which will in almost all cases be higher then what you see here.

    B. State and federal regulations would calculate the actual clocked in hours

    C. Financial HPPD will also always include actual clocked in hours
