Image Annotator Overview

Navigating the Image Annotator

  • Click the Edit button when hovering over any Image thumbnail to open the Annotator

  • Your Image is displayed in the main Annotator workspace

  • Zoom your view of the Annotator workspace in or out using the buttons in the top left corner

  • Navigate to other Images without exiting the Annotator by clicking the Images button at bottom left-hand corner

    • A drawer opens at the bottom of the page showing all your active Images

    • Click the thumbnail of any other Image to see it full-sized within the Annotator workspace

  • Your Annotation tools are all in the toolbar to the left of the workspace

  • The column at the right of the workspace houses all the content linked to Marker Annotations

  • Exit the Annotator by clicking the Back Arrow button at the top left

Annotation Tools

  1. The Pointer tool allows you to select and resize any elements in your workspace - both source Images and individual Annotations

    • Click the element and a blue rectangle highlights it in your workspace

    • Click-and-drag the corners of the rectangle to size the element larger or smaller

    • The aspect ratio is locked by default - if you wish to resize without maintaining the aspect ratio, click the lock icon at top right before you click and drag

    • Be sure to click the Save button below the main toolbar after you resize any elements

  2. The Marker tools allow you to communicate all different notes and callouts on each Image without creating much visual clutter

    • Click the Marker icon on the toolbar and then choose the correct type of Marker for your callout

    • Place your Marker on your Image by clicking where you’d like it to appear

    • Click-and-drag as you place the Marker to create an arrow extension, for areas of finer detail

    • The content for each Marker is listed to the right of the workspace

    • Edit the content for any Marker by clicking it within this column

    1. Use the Comment Marker tool to free-type notes and callouts

      • Enter your Comment in the modal and click save

    2. Use the Component Marker tool to indicate specific Components that appear on your Image, dynamically linking to your Component Library and your BOM

      • Choose to query either your specific Product’s BOM or your whole Component Library for relevant Components

      • Query by Component Name or Component Code and select the correct match

      • When querying the whole Component Library, click the “Add to BOM” checkbox to add the selected Component directly to the Product’s BOM

      • New Components can also be created on the fly through this Marker, if needed

    3. Use the Construction Detail Marker tool to indicate common specifications related to the construction and assembly of your Products, housed in your Construction Detail Library

      • Query by Construction Detail Name or Construction Detail Code and select the correct match

      • New Construction Details can also be created on the fly through this Marker, if needed

    4. Use the Point of Measure Marker tool to indicate specific Points of Measure that appear on your Image, dynamically linking to your Point of Measure Library and Size Spec

      • Either query your specific Product’s Size Spec for the relevant POM, or choose Templates in the dropdown menu to the right of the search bar to query your entire POM Library

      • Query by POM Name or POM Code and select the correct match

      • When querying the whole POM Library, your selection is automatically added to the Product’s SpecThe Text tool allows you to add typed annotations right on top of your Image, rather than via a Marker

  3. The Text tool allows you to place in line text on top of your image. Set your desired Font and Font Size at top right

    1. Place the annotation on your Image by clicking where you’d like it to appear

    2. Type your desired text in the modal and click save

  4. The Arrow / Line tool allows you to point to certain parts of your sketch

    • Set your desired Terminator (arrowhead, flat end, no terminator, etc.), Terminator Position (start or end of the line) and line Pattern (solid or dashed) at top right

    • Place the annotation on your Image by clicking, dragging, and releasing

  5. The Dimension tool allows you to call out specific linear measurements

    • Set your desired Terminator (arrowhead, flat end, no terminator, etc.) and line Pattern (solid or dashed) at top right

    • Place the annotation on your Image by clicking, dragging and releasing

    • Click the & box at the center of the line to type in your measurement, then click the X button to save

  6. The Pen tool allows you to draw freehand on top of your Image

    • Place the annotation on your Image by clicking, dragging and releasing

  7. The Rectangle tool allows you to place a dashed or solid rectangular outline on your Image

    • Place the annotation on your Image by clicking, dragging and releasing

  8. The Circle tool allows you to place a dashed or solid circular outline on your Image

    • Place the annotation on your Image by clicking, dragging and releasing

  9. The Move tool allows you to rearrange elements in your workspace - Images and Annotations alike

    • Click the element, drag it to a new location and release to set it there

  10. The Paint tool allows you to specify the color of your annotations

    • Select your desired color with the Paint tool prior to selecting another annotation tool, and the annotation will appear in that color

    • Select your desired color with the Paint tool and click existing annotations to switch their colors

    • Note that Marker colors are hard-set for consistency, you cannot change these colors with the Paint tool

  11. The Erase tool allows you to remove annotations from your Image

    • Select the tool and then click any annotation to erase it

  12. The Pan tool allows you to pan the view within your workspace

Additional Annotator Functionality

  • You can copy the Annotations layer from one Image to another

    • Click the Images button at the bottom left-hand corner of the Annotator

    • A drawer opens at the bottom of the page showing all your active Images

    • Hover over your source Image thumbnail to access the 3-dot Overflow Menu, then select the Copy Annotations option

    • Hover over your target Image thumbnail to access the 3-dot Overflow Menu, then select the Paste Annotations option

    • Annotations can be pasted on another Image within the same Product, or they can be pasted on an Image in another Product
