Block Library

Updated over a year ago

A Block is a Graded Size Spec template that can be quickly added to any Product Record. Best practice is to create and maintain Blocks for each of your core product types, in a dedicated Block Library. Working off of your Blocks when creating new Products helps ensure consistency and accuracy of crucial Size Spec data.

Navigating the Block Library

  • You access the Block Library by clicking its dedicated icon in the Global Navigation

  • Search for a specific Block by Name or Code at the top of the page

  • Toggle between Card View and List View as needed

    • Card View displays a large thumbnail image, Name and Code for every Block

    • List View displays a small thumbnail image, Name, Code, the Block Creator and Last Modified date for every Block

  • Sort your Block Library by Product Name, Code, or Date Modified

  • Click the Filter icon to open your Taxonomy-level Filters, which allow you to refine the displayed Blocks

Managing Blocks within the Block Library

  • Additional actions are available within the Block Library by accessing the Overflow menus

    • In Card View, you open this menu by hovering over a Block Card and clicking the 3-dot Overflow Icon which appears at the top right

    • In List View, you open this menu by clicking the 3-dot Overflow Icon on the far right side of the Block Row

  • Overflow menu actions:

    • Copy - creates a duplicate of the Block

      • Copies retain Block Names but append the note “(Copy)” for ease of disambiguation

      • Changes made to one copy do not affect the other copy

    • Edit - opens a pop-up Edit Modal where you can change the highest level Block information

    • Delete - hard delete of the entire Block

  • Select multiple Blocks using the checkboxes to access the Bulk Actions toolbar

    • Bulk actions include the same Copy, Edit and Delete options outlined above

Creating a New Block

  1. Start by clicking the Add New Icon at bottom right corner of the page, opening the Create Block overlay

  2. In overlay, assign a Name and Code for your Block

  3. Then select your desired Unit of Measure and Measurement Format

    • Note you can switch UOM or Format in the Settings drawer later as needed

  4. Assign a Season, Division, Category and Year to your Block if applicable

  5. Choose between Alpha, Numeric or Alphanumeric Size Ranges

  6. Key your first Size in the type bar, hit enter to add, and repeat for each Size

    • To correct mistakes, click into the affected Size chip and retype

    • Drag and drop to rearrange Size chips as needed (keep in sequential order)

  7. Indicate which Size is your Sample Size by selecting the radio button

  8. Optionally, you can upload an image for your Block at the top of the screen

  9. Saving redirects you to your Block’s Point of Measure Mode

  10. You build out the Sizes, Points of Measure and Grade Rules for your Block the same way you build a Product Spec

Adding Points of Measure to your Block

  1. Using the search bar at the top of the page, query for Points of Measure you previously built in your POM Library

    • POMs are searchable by Name or Code

    • All POMs function as templates, meaning once a POM is added to your spec it may subsequently be edited without impacting the record in the POM Library, or any other Specs or Blocks.

  2. An option to Create new POMs also appears below search bar, if you find no existing match

    • The only required field in the Create New POM modal is POM Name

    • A POM Code is automatically generated if you don’t add one yourself

    • Assign the balance, optional POM attributes as needed (see more details on POM attributes here)

    • After your POM is created, you may choose to add your POMs to your POM Library if you wish to reuse this POM by selecting the checkbox on the left-hand side of your POM and using the export function in your bulk action toolbar; otherwise leave as a “one-off” POM which will live only on this Spec

  3. POMs display alongside all their attributes, with columns to assign Tolerances, Sample Size Measurements and Grade Rules for each graded size

  4. If certain POM attribute columns are not applicable to your business, hide them from view using the Hide Fields dropdown selector at top right

    • Hidden POM attribute fields do not appear on Tech Packs

    • Hidden/exposed POM attribute fields persist across all Blocks and Specs

  5. Edit POM attributes by clicking the POM Name

    • Clicking its name will open an edit modal in which you can make changes to your POM's attributes as they pertain to the particular spec you are working in

      • Any changes made within this modal will not affect any Specs or Block using this POM

  6. Click the leftmost cell of each POM row to access 6-dot handle, and drag and drop POMs to your desired order

  7. To Export or Bulk Export POMs into your library for future use, click the checkbox or checkboxes to the left of your POM Image and select the "+" Icon in your bulk action toolbar that will appear at the bottom of your spec

    • There is a select all option that will appear in your bulk action tool bar once you have selected one POM

      • If there are no duplicate records, Your POMs will automatically export to the library

      • If there are duplicate records, the system will prompt you to confirm whether you would like to save

Adding Base Measurements, Grade Rules and Tolerances to your Block

  • Select your preferred Spec Format in the Settings Drawer

    • Base Measurement Format is the most focused view, collapsing all Size columns beyond your Sample Size - it’s great for entering Tolerances and Base Measurements.

    • Combined Measures Format includes your Base Measurements column, and in the graded columns, both your Grade Rules and the Graded Measurements they yield are displayed. This view makes it easy to check your math as you grade.

    • Grade Rules Format shows just the Base Measurements and accompanying Grade Rules. This view can make it easy to spot typos.

    • Graded Measurements Format shows you the complete measurements, it's the view you’ll most likely share with your factory.

  • Click the Gear button to collapse the Settings drawer for better visibility on bigger specs/smaller monitors

  • Enter in the correct Tolerance for each POM

    • You may have predefined the Tolerances on each POM record, but they can be overwritten here as needed

  • Enter the Base Measurements for each POM in the highlighted Sample Size column

  • Enter the Grade Rules for each POM in the columns for the balance Sizes

    • Grade Rules can be entered in Combined Measures Format or in Grade Rules Format, whichever you prefer

    • Grade Rule values are automatically set to negative for Sizes smaller than your Sample Size, and positive for Sizes larger than your Sample Size

    • Right clicking a Grade Rule cell opens a menu with the option to Flip Grade, should you need to switch from a positive to a negative Grade Rule (or vice versa)

  • For POMs where Grade Rules are consistent across all Sizes, use the Copy Grade feature to speed up your process:

    • Right clicking in a Grade Rule cell opens a menu with the option to Copy Grade

    • Selecting this option pushes the assigned Grade Rule from left to right, establishing a steady grade for the whole Size Range

    • Affect more than one POM at a time by selecting multiple Grade Rule cells in the same column, then right clicking and using the Copy Grade function

Additional Block Functionality

  • Via the 3-dot Overflow Menu at the top right of the Block you can access some additional options:

    • Import from CSV

    • Download a CSV of your Block

    • Edit your Block (this includes adjusting Name, Code, Taxonomy Details and Size Range details)

    • Clear Size Spec

  • As within the Product Spec, Importing a CSV to create/update your Block requires you to configure your CSV carefully in advance

    1. Select the option and review the Template provided in the upload modal

    2. Per the Template, your CSV must have these column headers, in order: POM Name; POM Code; Tolerance; < insert Sizes, 1 per column > ; Sample Size.

    3. The Graded Measurements must be entered in the Size columns, not the Grade Rules

    4. The Measurements must all be in inches - you can convert to another Unit of Measure after you import if needed

    5. Indicate the Sample Size by typing it into the cell directly under your Sample Size column header

    6. Use Excel’s “General” format for the POM Name and POM Code columns, and “Number” format for the graded measurements (up to 3 decimal points - fractions are not acceptable)

    7. There can be no blank rows or columns in your data set

    8. Note that POMs imported from a CSV do not link back to your POM Library

  • In the Settings Drawer, you can convert your measurements to a different Unit of Measure or toggle between fraction and decimal format

Exporting Product Size Specs to the Block Library

Your Blocks can be imported into the Spec section of any Product. Likewise, you can export a Product’s Spec to the Block Library if it’s a standard you’d like to use again.

  • From within the Product Size Spec section, click the 3-dot Overflow Icon in the top right and choose the Export to Block option

  • Your new Block will open up, reflecting the source Product’s name

  • Click the 3-dot Overflow Icon and select the Edit Size Spec option to update the Name and Taxonomy for your Block, or assign it a Code

  • Note that Blocks only house Graded Spec data - any Measure Mode or Compare Mode data from your source Spec will not pull through
