Having trouble linking your 529 plan to Backpack? Or waiting on a hold period before your first withdrawal? We understand how frustrating that can be, here’s how to keep things moving.
Why linking may not be working
Some 529 providers may have trouble verifying new accounts, especially on the first attempt. If this happens, please reach out to us and we’ll work with your 529 provider to resolve the issue.
Also note that some 529 providers require a hold period after adding a new bank account like Backpack before you can initiate a withdrawal.
A helpful workaround
While you're waiting for verification, or if you’re running into linking issues, you can still fund your Backpack account another way:
Withdraw the funds from your 529 to a personal bank account that’s already linked to your 529 plan.
Then, open Backpack and go to “Add Money” > “Bank Transfer” to pull the funds into your Backpack account from your personal bank.
This approach gives you flexibility to stay on schedule even while your Backpack link is being verified or fixed.
