When you create a tuition payment, the school is notified straight away that your payment is in progress.
We recommend all Backpack users create a tuition payment even before their funds arrive in their Backpack account to give your University visibility that you’re actively looking to make a payment and securing your enrollment if you are approaching the payment deadline.
Create a pending tuition payment before your deadline
When you schedule a tuition payment, your school gives you up to 20 days to complete your payment through Backpack.
Here’s how your payment is protected:
Your school is notified as soon as you create the payment.
Payments are automatically complete the moment your 529 funds are deposited into your backpack account.
You’ll get email updates when funds are deposited into your Backpack account and again when it’s completed.
Tips for Peace of Mind
Track your payment status anytime in Backpack Dashboard → Transactions.
If a payment stays in Pending longer than expected, check the transfer status in your 529 plan or reach out to support.
