Hey there! πŸ‘‹

Are you looking for information about how to figure out if our ebike motor kits will work with your Road Bike? If so, you are in the right place and we are going to provide you with some important information to consider related to electrifying your bike type! πŸŽ‰

Somethings to note specifically about ebike conversions on Road Bikes:

While there is not too much to consider here as our motor kits are designed to work with most standard bikes including Road Bikes, we have outlined a few things to be mindful of below:

  • Road bikes can have tighter frame tolerances than other bikes based on the design. Our front hub motor kits come standard pre-installed with a big, beefy puncture-resistant hybrid off-road tire. So what this means is, if you are planning to install our Front hub motor kit on a road bike that currently has tight front fork tolerances and a skinny narrow tire, you will most likely have to replace the front tire on on front hub motor with a smaller more narrow front tire for our front hub motor kit to be able to work on your bike. We have provided a link to an article with more information related to replacing the tire on our Front hub motor kit here.

  • Installing our hardware including our displays, throttles, and ebrake levers can be more difficult to add to a road bike with a non-standard handlebar due to the fact that all of our handlebar hardware is designed to mount on a standard handlebar.

  • These are more difficult to convert due to the fact that all of our handlebar hardware is designed to mount on a standard handlebar. We do not recommend the 500C display for road bikes as it is the only display that we offer that is only designed to mount towards the end of a standard handlebar and has the smallest diameter mounting bracket. You can view all of our display sizing and mounting diameter information in the display manuals located on our website here.

  • Depending on the display that you purchase (C961 or DPC18), you should have fewer issues mounting the display than the throttle and ebrake levers or ebrake sensors. Unfortunately, the stock Mechanical Bafang Ebrake Levers (mounting inner diameter of ~22mm for standard handlebars) may not fit or be able to work with your handlebars depending on their size and mechanism. Even the installation of the ebake sensors on these non-standard handlebars can be very difficult if not impossible depending on your specific unique handlebar. We have customers who are able to complete these installations, however, depending on the geometry of your drop bar and the design of your brakes it can require some serious DIY creativity!
